Job Specifications

Serve as an operational excellence partner for electric utilities initiatives aimed at achieving strategic business goals, streamlining processes, eliminating inefficiencies, improving and sustaining operational results. This includes researching, planning, developing, implementing and measuring programs and initiatives of varying complexity.

SALARY RANGE: (Determined by the knowledge, skills and abilities of the applicant.)

  • Specialist: $65,700 - $98,500

  • Senior Specialist: $78,200 - $117,300

REPORTING RELATIONSHIP: Senior Manager, Electric Utility Operation Excellence

LOCATION:Our Corporate Headquarters in Rapid City, South Dakota

  • Relocation financial assistance is available, amount may vary based on individual circumstances.

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:

  • Support the development and implementation of operational excellence initiatives for electric utility operations, working collaboratively with generation, operations, engineering services, asset management, IT, regulatory/finance, HR, analytics, business development, accounting and supply chain teams.

  • Support the ongoing management of systems, programs, processes and initiatives targeted at ensuring electric utilities are operating at the highest levels of effectiveness.

  • Perform analysis to identify process improvement and enhancement opportunities. Benchmark industry practices to identify future organizational opportunities.

  • Facilitate current state assessments, process mapping exercises, root problem analysis and future state design sessions. Partner with process owners to develop and maintain consistent processes, roles and responsibilities, and methods to ensure adherence.

  • Develop and document metrics and systems designed to drive and sustain improvements. Use appropriate measurement, analysis, and evaluation methods to accurately document improvements.

  • Assist with change management and communication strategy development and execution to support operational excellence programs and initiatives. Ensure prompt delivery of required supplies and materials.

  • Prepare high quality communications, presentations, and reports for a variety of audiences. Effectively deliver in both verbal and written forms.

ADDITIONAL RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Develop and maintain strong, productive working relationships with employees throughout the company.

  • Promote a culture of ongoing operational excellence.

  • Assist with special projects as needed.

QUALIFICATIONS:

Specialist

  • Minimum of (3) three years of utility, project or program management, corporate business operations, continuous improvement or other relevant experience required.

  • Bachelor’s degree in industrial engineering, business or other relevant area required, or equivalent combination of education and experience.

Senior Specialist

  • Minimum of (5) five years of utility, project or program management, corporate business operations, continuous improvement or other relevant experience required.

  • Bachelor’s degree in industrial engineering, business or other relevant area required, or equivalent combination of education and experience.

KNOWLEDGE/SKILLS/ABILITIES:

  • Knowledge of or willingness to learn electric utility operations, budgeting, project management and corporate support functions.

  • Ability to learn and understand the correlation between financial, operational and strategic objectives and electric utility business implications.

  • Strong verbal and written communication skills.

  • Strong computer skills, including proficiency in Microsoft Word, Excel, Power Point, Project, Visio and Outlook. Ability to maintain proficiency with new systems and software as technology evolves.

  • Ability to create process flow charts, presentations and written procedures.

  • Ability to work concurrently on multiple projects independently and as part of a team while documenting and tracking projects and work goals.

  • Knowledge of project management methodologies with ability to plan and execute.

  • Knowledge of and ability to learn continuous improvement tools and methodologies such as Lean Six Sigma and GE Workout.

  • Demonstrated creative and strategic thinking ability.

  • Analytical skills needed for problem solving and analysis.
