SALARY RANGE: $77,250 - $100,470

Base salary is determined by the knowledge, skills and abilities of the applicant.

PRIMARY FUNCTION:

Drive growth in assigned market/product segment by developing, managing and continuously improving resources, processes and product lines.

REPORTING RELATIONSHIP: Vice President of Electric Operations

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:

  • Responsible for managing Black Hills Energy’s Renewable Energy Program including budgets.

  • Manages the Community Solar Garden program and related processes, including solicitations, contractor coordination, interconnect agreements and customer communications.

  • Drives market segment growth by proactively analyzing market conditions then developing profitable plans for capturing additional market opportunities.

  • Works together with the field sales force in developing and managing customer relationships.

  • Develops and leverages key alliances and partnerships that provide critical support to enhanced growth outcomes.

  • Maintains relationships with clients by providing support, information, and guidance; researching and recommending new opportunities.

  • Responsible for managing customer inquiries and processing of all applications for Black Hills Energy’s Renewable Energy Program.

  • Responsible for managing activities with third parties and other departments to ensure physical connections of customer renewables installations, the incorporation of customer credits in affected accounts and overall compliance with the appropriate tariffs and regulations related to renewables.

  • Prepare solicitations for proposals for the addition of renewables/solar resources and facilitates the process for securing and evaluating such proposals.

  • Partner with Regulatory to submit PUC filings relating to the RES plan and other renewable filings.

  • Maintains a working knowledge of trends in, and potential policy changes impacting, the renewable energy industry.

  • Responsible for the day to day supervision and performance management of staff.

ADDITIONAL RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Manages the program’s applicant database as well as the renewable energy credit database and develops reports summarizing historical and current levels of renewables activity.

  • Responsible for managing the inspection of installations and the connection of customer facilities to the Black Hills Energy system.

  • Work with matrix personnel on the marketing and communications activities associated with the company’s renewable programs.

  • Utilize appropriate tools to determine PV output and shading issues.

  • Responsible for business unit’s overall compliance and reporting activities related to Colorado’s Renewable Energy Standard.

  • Processes payments to participants in the Black Hills Energy’s Renewable Energy Program.

  • Maintains a working knowledge of trends in, and potential policy changes impacting, the renewable energy industry.

  • Prepares and delivers presentations on renewable energy and Black Hills Energy’s programs to customers, industry groups, civic groups and trade allies.

WORKING RELATIONSHIPS:

  • Manage relationships with renewable energy associations.

  • Maintain a close working relationship with BHE Regulatory personnel and the Colorado PUC.

  • Maintain a working relationship with other Black Hills Energy personnel to coordinate the integration of renewable resources with other energy resources.

  • Maintain a regular contact with local renewable energy contractors.

EXPERIENCE:

  • 5 or more years of experience in sales and marketing or an equivalent combination of education and experience required.

  • Experience in electric utility operations is strongly preferred.

EDUCATION:

  • Bachelor’s degree in engineering, business, marketing or related area preferred, or equivalent combination of education and experience.

KNOWLEDGE:

  • Knowledge and understanding of Renewable Energy Programs, related tariffs and policies.

  • Knowledge of the electric industry and basic electric system operation.

  • Knowledge of the renewable energy industry.

  • Working knowledge of renewable energy technologies, including wind, solar, biomass and hydroelectric.

  • Working knowledge of wind turbine operating systems.

  • Working knowledge of PV operating systems.

  • Understanding of Colorado’s Renewable Energy Standard.

  • Working knowledge of net metering requirements.

SKILLS/ABILITY/OTHER CHARACTERISTICS:

  • Proven leadership ability and motivation to drive results.

  • Strong grasp of the electric business.

  • Strong customer relationship qualities with great communication and interpersonal skills.

  • Strong understanding of customer and market dynamics and requirements.
