Position Summary
Probst Electric is seeking a detail-oriented and motivated Staff Accountant to join our dynamic finance team. This role will support the day-to-day accounting operations, ensuring accurate financial reporting and compliance with internal controls and industry standards. The ideal candidate will have a strong understanding of construction or project-based accounting and thrive in a team-oriented, deadline-driven environment.
What You'll Do
Key Responsibilities
Maintain and reconcile general ledger accounts, assisting in month-end and year-end closing processes.
Monitor receivable transactions, including cash receipt processing and customer setup management.
Reconcile monthly bank statements with internal records to verify cash balances and identify variances.
Post payments, resolve billing discrepancies, and communicate with Project Managers regarding outstanding balances.
Prepare journal entries, perform account reconciliations.
Ensure compliance with GAAP, internal policies, and regulatory requirements.
Support internal and external audits with timely and accurate documentation.
Prepare and file monthly, quarterly, and annual sales and use tax returns in compliance with local, state, and federal regulations
Perform tie-outs of intercompany accounts to ensure proper balancing and reconciliation across entities.
Recommend and assist in implementing process improvements for greater efficiency and accuracy.
What You'll Bring
Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field
1–3 years of accounting experience, preferably in construction or electrical contracting
Strong understanding of job costing and WIP (Work in Progress) accounting
Proficiency in JD Edwards Software
Excellent analytical, organizational, and communication skills
Strong attention to detail with the ability to manage multiple priorities
Team-oriented with a proactive and adaptable mindset
