Overview

Gas Engineering Design is responsible for the design of standard and complex gas projects allowing for the safe and reliable delivery of natural gas to customers. Distribution specifically supports the design of main and service replacement, public works, reliability, and growth. The position is within a progression to develop into a technical subject matter expert for natural gas system design.

This engineering role is open to engineers with 0 to 2 years experience.

Responsibilities

  • Develop unique engineering designs for standard and complex engineering projects

  • Work collaboratively with outside consulting firms and internal stakeholders, including construction oversight and work support teams, to ensure projects and programs meet the annual work plan.

  • Prioritize work and manage multiple projects within budget and time constraints

  • Assess project scopes and identify required variances prior to design to ensure a complete, high quality and safe project outcome

  • Implement change control procedures as necessary to track design changes instituted by engineering or field operations and identify any associated risks that may result; document any requests to deviate from approved/agreed to parameters and seek authorization where required

  • Provide operational engineering support, including participation in the afterhours on call support for OE on a rotational basis with other team members.

  • Establish and lead, as necessary, an engineering design project team to develop and manage all engineering aspects of a project.

  • Incorporate corporate process safety procedures into the project workflow as required,Identify/specify special order (non-stock) required materials and, identify the necessary permits associated with the project.

  • Perform design quality peer reviews of other engineer’s work.

Qualifications

  • ABET accredited Bachelor of Science Degree in an Engineering discipline is required. Mechanical or civil preferred.

  • The ability to interact with a diverse group of company personnel, contractors, regulatory representatives, and town/city officials in a positive collaborative manner.

  • Effective written and verbal communication skills, both internal and external.

  • 10+ years previous engineering experience including experience in natural gas distribution systems and gas corrosion control practices is preferred, but not required.

  • PE preferred

  • Proficient with AutoCAD, Mapping 3D of AUD

  • Valid driver’s license required with a safe driving history.

  • Knowledge of Federal DOT and State Codes related to the T&D of natural gas as well as applicable industry codes is preferred, but not required.

  • Strong organizational skills, ability to adapt to change, and desire to consistently learn and improve

  • Ability to thrive both independently and/or as part of a team, depending on what the task at hand calls for

This role will be filled at the appropriate engineer level based on the successful candidate's background and experience.

Engineer

  • Bachelor's Degree in engineering.

Support Engineer

  • Bachelor's degree in engineering. In lieu of degree, applicants who have PE license in the state of Rhode Island will be considered.

  • Minimum of 2 years of related experience.
