Overview

Rhode Island Energy is seeking a Gas Distribution Asset Management Engineer to provide technical expertise and support from an engineering perspective to ensure safe and effective operation, maintenance and enhancement of RI Energy’s gas distribution network in accordance with the corporate strategic plan.

The position will encompass a range of responsibilities including sanctioning and managing budgets for various programs, integrity assessment for the distribution system, program development associated with the integrity assessment, regulatory reporting to the Department of Transportation and local State Agencies. In addition, the individual is responsible for ensuring other RI Energy business units are provided with the appropriate technical expertise to meet strategic requirements.

Responsibilities

  • Develop natural gas main and service replacement programs by performing a detailed analysis of the existing natural gas distribution systems

  • Analyze natural gas main and service leak data to determine project prioritization factors in accordance with Regulatory requirements and Company procedures

  • Prepare reports in accordance with Regulatory requirements and Company needs

  • Perform basic or standard engineering analysis/calculations and designs (e.g., site layout, piping design, material specification, etc.) associated with small scale complex projects and/or participate in large scale complex projects

  • Independently collate and analyze data within one area using pre-determined tools, methods and formats in order to support the department’s decision-making process

  • Analyze natural gas facility replacement requests from Field Operations personnel. Also, act as a liaison with Field Operations personnel to communicate and coordinate natural gas replacement programs

  • Execute instructions and requests, plan and organize resources and make appropriate arrangements to ensure that work is carried out efficiently and in line with relevant policies and processes

  • Provide operational engineering support, including participation in the afterhours on call support for OE on a rotational basis with other team members.

  • Participate in Storm restoration activities or other system emergencies (gas and electric) as called upon.

Qualifications

  • An ABET accredited Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical, Civil, Chemical, Industrial, Electrical, or Computer engineering is required.

  • Previous engineering experience including experience in natural gas distribution systems and underground utility construction practices is preferred, but not required. Entry level candidates will be considered.

  • Knowledge of Federal DOT and State Codes related to the T&D of natural gas as well as applicable industry codes is preferred, but not required.

  • Strong computer skills. Experience with GIS systems a plus.

  • Strong organizational skills, ability to adapt to change, and desire to consistently learn and improve

  • Ability to thrive both independently and/or as part of a team, depending on what the task at hand calls for.

This position will be filled at the appropriate level based on the successful candidates background and experience.

Engineer

  • Bachelor's Degree in engineering. Discipline required will vary by the specific job requirements.

Support Engineer

  • Bachelor's degree in engineering. In lieu of degree, applicants who have PE license in the state of Rhode Island will be considered.

  • Minimum of 2 years of related experience.

Senior Engineer

  • Bachelor's degree in engineering. In lieu of degree, applicants who have PE license in the state of Rhode Island will be considered.

  • Minimum of 5 years of related experience.

  • Working knowledge of regulatory requirements and industry standards for the specific position.
