Position Description
Serve as the primary safety resource to the Directors, Managers, Supervisors, and Employees. Actively oversee, manage and lead the development, implementation of safety programs, policies, procedures and initiatives that will support employees working together to prevent injury. In doing this, this position will also ensure compliance with all applicable company, local, state and federal laws, regulations and standards concerning safety and health, as well as applicable standards set forth by the governing authority. This position assists the UNSG Operations group in all aspects of safety training development and presentation. This position will collaborate with the Corporate Safety and Environmental teams to ensure alignment with the Corporate Safety Strategy, ensure all Environmental requirements are met, and implementation of UNS safety initiatives. As the primary safety resource at UNSG, this position will serve as a safety coach, safety trainer, and mentor for all employees and members of the leadership team.
Position-Related Responsibilities Level I
Oversees and managesall aspects of internal, corporate and external safety training, compliance, and documentation.Focuses on learning the overall operation and needs for safety training and compliance for all applicable sections regarding company, federal, state and local laws
Provide safety, environmental and health consultation services to employees and leaders.
Provide guidance and coaching to members of the Leadership team on how they can effectively lead safety in their areas of responsibility.
Promote the concepts of Human and Organizational Performance (HOP) in the organization.
Develops and presents new employee safety orientation programs.
Works with the Leadership team to involve and engage employees in safety processes, initiatives, and activities.
Assist leadership and employees in identifying, mitigating and controlling hazards in the work environment.
Oversees and leads UNS Gas Environmental Safety requirements
Administers and monitors employee hygiene safety requirements including SCBA, Fit Testing and PPE
Understands and promotes the UNS safety strategy.
Collaborate with UNS Corporate Safety regarding overall organization and department safety issues.
Responsible for the oversight, management and implementation of the UNS Gas Safety Manual and associated electronic and written documents.
Implement policies and procedures to assure awareness of, and compliance with safety and health requirements of the organization. Develop the training for these policies and procedures.
Coordinate audits of health and safety programs within the organization to identify and control significant loss producing exposure.
Keep informed on all existing and proposed changes in health and safety regulations.
Develop training on relevant safety and health issues
Promote communication programs to enhance and encourage employee awareness of safety and health issues.
Serve as a technical consultant to departments in matters related to safety, environmental and health issues.
Facilitates incident investigations, develops and presents detailed reports on the events, contextual and causal factors, and event learnings.
Facilitates Learning Teams to promote and foster organizational learning.
Provides feedback to employees for safety related issues.
Develops safety meeting material. Presents this material as needed.
Participates in Safety Process Analysis within UNS.
Coordinates departmental activities with other areas throughout Company, as required, to insure a cooperative effort on all tasks.

Monitors literature from federal, state, and local areas that affect the utility industry.
Assist in evaluation and purchase of safety material, tools and equipment to be used by various groups.
This position reports directly to the Director of UNSG with a dotted line reporting relationship to the UNS Corporate Safety Director.
This position requires extensive travel throughout the UNS service territory, including extended periods of work in remote districts and field service operations.
This position may provide services to affiliates of the Company subject to the UNS Energy Code of Conduct and the related Policies and Procedures
Position-Related Responsibilities Level II
Responsible for the administration, development oversight and implementation of the UNS Gas Safety Manual, Environmental documents, PPE standards, and associated electronic and written documents.
Develops administers oversees and implements environmental procedures and associated electronic and written documents
· Represents department and sections on various committees, as necessary, to insure that favorable associations continue. Disseminates appropriate information resulting from committee conclusions.
Advises and assists the Director with Safety Culture direction
Assumes financial responsibility for the UNS Gas Safety budget

Minimum Qualifications:
Experience Required:
Level I:
Demonstrated knowledge of OSHA, MSHA, NFPA, ANSI, ACC, NESC, NEC regulations, standards and best practices.
Demonstrated ability to present to large groups of employees.
Demonstrated ability to collaborate with others in a complex organization.
Demonstrated ability to influence and mentor safety leadership and employee engagement
Demonstrated ability to investigate incidents and assist with identification of causal factors and effective solutions for unsafe conditions, procedures, processes, etc.
Ability to conduct scene and job evaluations in all manner of terrain at all hours of the day and night.
Demonstrated ability to perform job functions while travelling and working remotely.
Demonstrated ability to communicate effectively with diverse groups across functional lines. Must have high level of interpersonal skills to handle sensitive and confidential situations. Position continually requires demonstrated poise, tact and diplomacy.
Proficient in the use of personal computer applications, including but not limited to, Microsoft Excel, Word, PowerPoint, and Outlook.
Strongly prefer previous safety specialist experience in a utility environment.

In addition to the qualifications required for Level I, listed above:
OSHA Certification
A bachelor’s degree in Safety, Industrial Hygiene, or related field or equivalent experience, or a combination of education and work experience may be considered
Oversees and assures that all activities are performed in a manner which optimizes costs and efficiencies for the organization.
5+ years of relevant safety experience or designation as a Certified Safety Professional (CSP)
