Role

SP Energy Networks is part of ScottishPower, we provide power on behalf of supply companies through a network of cables and power lines that we own and maintain. Through our transmission and distribution network we provide power to customers in Merseyside, Cheshire, North Wales and North Shropshire as well as Central and Southern Scotland.

As Land Team Leader, you will be responsible for the day-to-day management of the Distribution (33kV and below) Land Officer Team (including external service providers) to secure the necessary landowner permissions and statutory planning consents required for the delivery of electrical infrastructure projects.

What you’ll be doing

Provide professional leadership, support and direction to the Land Officer Team. Ensure that performance is managed proactively to maximise productivity and meet Land & Planning team objectives.

Proactively manage individual District land rights requirements with the aim of resolving problems that prevent delivery of capital programmes and/or are detrimental to the safety or security of the existing network.

Provide specialist advice:

  • On risks surrounding Land Rights being sought, with recommendations for correct course of action and potential solutions.

  • To District Management Team, Distribution Land Manager and the Head of Land & Planning on the risks/issues associated with matters related to terminations and the use of statutory powers to ensure that the Company’s rights are preserved and asset safety & security is maintained.

  • On solutions, including alternative options, that may resolve matters with the landowner that facilitate voluntary agreement being obtained. Where voluntary agreement cannot be obtained ensure the Company’s statutory powers are utilised.

  • To the business where decisions on land damage and compensation value require to be escalated.

Be the point of escalation for Land Officers dealing with complex land matters.

Develop individual project strategies where the use the use of compulsory powers is required and contribute to the drafting of written submissions to the hearing Reporter/Inspector.

Ensure the team is aware and complies with Company Health and Safety requirements and update them on particular issues as they arise. Undertake safety audits on team as directed by the business.

What you’ll bring

You will draw upon a sound knowledge and practical experience in the implementation land rights processes and procedures relating to project delivery and landowner relations to enable the development of consenting strategies to ensure both capital delivery and safety and security of the existing network.

As Land Team Leader – the use of strong negotiation skills are required utilising knowledge of the land rights legislation and company policies and procedures to effectively lead the Land Officer Team and where appropriate directly engage with external parties.

The ability to communicate effectively with a wide range of parties’ at varying levels within organisations, including senior management, engineers, planners, lawyers, statutory bodies, farmers/landowners and the wider public. Must have the ability to deal with and resolve adversarial and confrontational situations. Have good organisational skill and be able to manage a variety of competing priorities.

Minimum Requirements

  • Sound knowledge and practical experience in the implementation of land rights processes

  • Excellent people skills, working with varying levels within any given organisation
