Avangrid Wind Turbine Engineer in Portland, Oregon

Base Salary for this position is dependent upon experience and location:

Salary: $76,186.00 to $95,233.00

This individual is responsible for supporting Avangrid’s Wind Turbine and Solar PV fleet and for the resolution of issues related to mechanical systems (drivetrain, structures, foundations, bearings, etc.).

Responsibilities

  • Serve as SME in the areas above by supporting Avangrid’s operational fleet on technical issues related to these areas and by proposing and evaluating improvements and modifications.

  • Participate in and support investigations into anomalies and failures of electrical equipment, including major and minor components. Assist in carrying out inspections and analysis with the aim of evaluating hypotheses, identifying root cause, and evaluating corrective measures.

  • Coordinate with external professional and consultants as necessary to support technical investigations.

  • Create and maintain technical comprehensive summaries to document progress and experience.

  • Organize and lead meetings with original equipment manufacturers and service providers to ensure quality and compliance with contractual obligations.

  • Identify and propose engineering studies with the aim of improving the reliability and performance of key Wind turbine components; manage these studies utilizing both internal and external resources.

  • Evaluate design modifications and corrective measures proposed by the OEMs, preparing technical summaries and presentations, with the aim of informing decision making.

  • Support operating fleet as required with the aim of creating a safe working environment, addressing technical issues, and maximizing energetic availability.

  • Visit generating plants and suppliers as necessary to investigate issues first-hand and support program deployments.

  • Serve as SME for NERC and regional standards related to interconnection of renewable resources onto the Bulk Electrical System, e.g., MOD and PRC. Manage projects/campaigns related to achieving compliance with the same.

Requirements

  • B.S. in Mechanical Engineering or equivalent technical field.

  • Minimum of 3 years of experience in Renewables.

  • Demonstrated record of superior academic and professional performance.

  • Possession of comprehensive writing skills.

  • Working knowledge of office and engineering analysis programs.

  • Familiarity with FEA, aeroelastic and CAD modeling programs such as AutoCAD, SolidWorks, Ansys, Flex, Bladed, etc.

  • Familiarity with testing and measurement equipment.

  • Demonstrated ability to take actions beyond the explicit job responsibilities to assist in large, complex projects.

  • Must work well under pressure from job demands, multi-tasking ability essential.

  • Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of variables in situations where only limited standardization exists.

  • Ability to climb 100 meter tall steel towers and lift up 50 lbs on occasion.

  • Flexibility to travel up to 20 % of the time and work in the field.
