As a T&D Materials Standards Engineer you will work on a team that plans and provides engineering expertise to a broad range of assignments related to industry best transmission and distribution design and construction standards and practices. In this role you will specifically focus on work related to improving PGE’s use of T&D Materials. You will be responsible for:
creating and updating documentation related to material units
consolidating material units for improved selection and construction application
approving alternate material suppliers
managing material failures
participating in supplier audits
providing subject matter expertise for internal stakeholders
This role requires in-depth knowledge and experience utilizing knowledge of T&D Material to improve design and construction throughput. You will solve a variety of problems, from simple to complex, by leading and working with a variety of stakeholders. You will bring and use new perspectives, applying them to existing solutions to improve costs and outcomes. You will also act as a subject matter expert and resource for colleagues with less experience.
Maintains currency in state-of-the-art engineering practices and provides guidance and direction on engineering processes and standards to colleagues when requested. Applies knowledge of transmission and design standards, including overhead/underground distribution design, construction practices and materials, design tools, techniques, regulatory requirements and applicable state and federal codes; provides technical guidance and support to other engineers or third-party contractors.
Engineering Production ;
Prepares a variety of complex engineering deliverables for larger or multiple projects; coordinates multiple discipline activity. Develops and provides quality assurance reviews of engineering solutions that meet technical requirements, all applicable codes, regulatory requirements and follow sound engineering practice. Analyzes and completes complex overhead or underground material and equipment specifications and studies, providing data and recommendations technical matters to management; Develops, revises and implements material specifications, leads standards review meetings and obtains input and technical data from various technical stakeholders, leads development of complex standards and provides technical support and guidance to less experienced colleagues; determines requirements for T&D projects and determines project requirements and scope.
Actively coordinates with other internal/external team members on moderately complex projects, including representing the team to interdepartmental and external (regulatory) stakeholders. Plans, develops and coordinates T&D standards projects with complex design, construction, operation, maintenance or testing elements in support of engineering and construction needs; provides accurate capital budget and job estimates. Considers supply chain impacts.
Serves as a technical specialist and provides consultation/guidance to project teams in a particular practice area; actively fosters knowledge management and provides mentoring; implements resource management strategy. Develops training content on new design standards; trains designers, field technicians and less experienced colleagues on new T&D standards; provides technical training to department and company through internal training program.
Sr. Standards Engineer, P3 Career
Education Requires a bachelor’s degree in electrical, mechanical or civil engineering or related field from an ABET accredited engineering program or program accredited by an equivalent agency.
Experience Five or more years in engineering, or four or more years in related field with PE license.
Certifications, Licenses and Training Professional Engineering (PE) license strongly preferred; may be required based upon role.
Valid Driver’s License required
Advanced knowledge of T&D materials and construction units
Intermediate knowledge of manufacturing processes
Advanced knowledge of engineering and economic principles and concepts.
Advanced knowledge of other engineering disciplines and advanced ability to interpret engineering deliverable content as assigned.
Advanced understanding and application of engineering processes and procedures; working knowledge of other related departments and functions.
Advanced industry knowledge and technology trends.
Advanced knowledge of company QA/QC process and procedures.
Intermediate knowledge of construction feasibility.
Intermediate knowledge of procurement and contract administration.
Advanced knowledge of process, procedures for project controls and estimates.
Intermediate knowledge of initiating electrical improvements and corrective actions for transmission and distribution.
Intermediate knowledge of physical electrical and control and protection transmission and distribution design
Advanced ability to review, evaluate and analyze technical information, policies and reports.
