General Purpose

General purpose for the Finance/ Accounting & SOX Analyst or Specialist:

Provides advice and counsel to management and internal clients regarding Sarbanes-Oxley (SOX) compliance. Coordinate with internal and external audit functions, as well as PacifiCorp’s corporate compliance office. Conducts special studies and analyses, develops alternatives, presents recommendations to management and influences management decisions regarding internal control over financial reporting. Researches, analyzes, develops and implements new strategies, programs, and/or processes in response to changing internal and external conditions, including with respect to the finance component of PacifiCorp’s information security management system. Provides professional accounting services utilizing U.S. Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP) and prepares external and ad hoc financial reporting materials.

Responsibilities

Responsibilities of the Senior Finance/Accounting and SOX Analyst:

  • Coordinate all SOX compliance efforts for multiple and diverse business functions.

  • Coordinate and monitor PacifiCorp’s SOX quarterly self-assessment and certification process.

  • Evaluate internal control deficiencies, assist with development of remediation plans and perform related implementation and monitoring.

  • Implement changes to internal controls to maintain SOX compliance as processes change or evolve.

  • Guide and advise business process and control owners in the creation and maintenance of required flowcharts, narratives, control self-assessments and other documentation required to ensure SOX compliance.

  • Conduct process assessments, evaluate controls, establish improvements and perform special projects.

  • Coordinate and monitor SOX fraud risk assessments.

  • Perform reviews of Statement on Standards for Attestation Engagements No. 18 System and Organization Controls reports provided by PacifiCorp’s key service organizations.

  • Act as subject matter expert and coordinator for the finance aspects of PacifiCorp’s information security management system in conjunction with PacifiCorp’s corporate compliance office.

  • Consult, resolve and/or recommend alternatives to internal customer issues which may be critical, complex, sensitive or urgent in nature.

  • Manage multiple projects and conflicting deadlines to ensure adherence to project timelines and critical review dates.

  • Communicate and work with all levels of the organization, including executive management, in order to achieve quarterly and annual compliance deliverables.

  • Assist periodically with technical accounting functions, including reviewing contracts and new accounting pronouncements for accounting and financial reporting implications.

  • Assist periodically with external reporting functions including compilation, analysis and interpretation of financial and non-financial data on an accurate and timely basis in the preparation of external filings with the SEC, PacifiCorp’s state regulatory commissions and the FERC, as well as coordination of internal data requests to gather support for these filings and ad hoc reporting.

In addition to the above, the Finance/Accounting and SOX Specialist responsibilities include the following:

  • Act as subject matter expert for Sarbanes-Oxley (SOX) compliance,

  • Act as key liaison with internal and external auditors for internal control matters.

Requirements

Requirements of the Senior Finance/Accounting Analyst:

  • Bachelor's Degree in Accounting or a related field; or the equivalent combination of education and experience.

  • A minimum of five years’ experience in accounting or a related field.

  • A strong working knowledge of GAAP.

  • Proficient with the requirements of the Sarbanes-Oxley Act and the Committee of Sponsoring Organizations of the Treadway Commission (COSO) framework

  • Ability to listen and communicate effectively through oral and written means.

  • Communication and interpersonal skills including ability to consult with internal and external customers regarding matters/issues which may be sensitive in nature.

  • Ability to work with all levels of an organization including people with different styles and backgrounds; ability to work as a member of a team. Ability to present alternatives and recommendations.

  • Proficient with the use of software applications to gather, analyze, and summarize data

In addition to the above, the Finance/ Accounting Specialist requirements include:

  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills including the ability to establish trust, maintain confidence, and understand social behavior and interactions.

  • Ability to work with all organizational levels, and to influence actions and negotiate outcomes.

  • Ability to listen and communicate effectively through oral and written means.

  • Project management and leadership skills, including the ability to work as a team member, to maintain project timelines and deliver on commitments.

Preferences

  • CPA designation

  • General understanding of the Federal Energy Regulatory Commission (FERC) Code of Regulations.

  • General understanding of utility economics and accounting, as well as utility commission rules and regulations.

  • Experience with International Organization for Standardization (ISO) 27001 standards
