Portland General Electric Senior Tax Analyst in Portland, Oregon

Job Function

This position will be part of a highly engaged and performing team focused on meeting PGE’s corporate tax responsibilities. As part of the Corporate Tax team this position provides the opportunity to build and develop foundational technical and analytic skills related to income tax, property tax, and ASC 740 accounting for income taxes. The individual in this position will work in collaboration with other members of the Tax Department and other various PGE business units on tax planning, research issues and special projects. Must be able to handle multiple projects, work independently and in a team environment, prioritize work and complete assignments accurately and in a timely manner. Seeking motivated individual looking for opportunity to learn and grow within the tax department and CFO organization.

Key Responsibilities

Compliance

Research tax accounting issues and drafts written support for company positions

Tax Process Support

Performs tax research and planning, including review of effects of new legislation, tax court cases and new tax regulations and their potential impact to the company

Preparation and Submission

Prepares and files required tax reporting, coordinating outsourced tax preparation work as needed; reviews work of other team members and research/resolves issues or questions within the filings

Strategy and Planning

Researches and recommends tax strategies in alignment with the organization’s financial strategy, including impacts to utility regulation; researches and documents the basis for tax positions to be taken by the organization

Financial System Management

Partners with Financial Systems team to ensure systems provided data necessary for accurate tax filings

Internal Consultation

Prepares recommendations regarding the tax impact of organization strategies; researches the impact of new laws on tax liabilities

External Interaction

Participates in audits with various taxation authorities, providing follow-up or resolution as required

Education/Experience/Certifications

Education

Requires a bachelor’s degree in accounting, finance or other related field or equivalent experience

Experience

Typically five or more years in related field

Certifications, Licenses and Training

CPA preferred

Competencies

Functional Competencies

Advanced knowledge of tax and compliance laws, regulations, and practices. Intermediate knowledge of other finance and accounting disciplines. Intermediate knowledge of financial systems and applications. Intermediate knowledge of utility industry regulations preferred.
