As an Industrial Hygienist you will inspect facilities and premises and proscribe corrective action to mitigate employee health risks. You will prepare reports, ensure compliance with regulations and provide advice and consultation to management.
This role requires in-depth knowledge and experience. You will use best practices and knowledge of internal or external business issues to improve products or services and solve complex problems.
Monitoring Under general supervision, develops plans for monitoring and sampling of occupational exposures. Responds to requests for ad hoc sampling or monitoring. Performs intake and develops site visit plan. Visits variety of work-sites to conduct air, water and other sampling and monitoring. Collects and analyzes data. Compares hazard levels with recommended exposure levels. Ensures compliance with state and/or federal laws.
Reporting Develops reports. Analyzes data and information and identifies trends. Recommends remediation strategies when exposure levels exceed desired amounts.
Program Management Develops and administers safety programs, guidelines and initiatives to meet business objectives and complies with all relevant state and/or federal laws and regulations. Integrates industry best practices into existing programs
Consultation Serves as subject matter expert to employees, managers and Human Resources. Provides information on industrial hazards. Collaborates with Human Resources and others to support operational units. Provides training to employees and managers.
Special Projects Under general guidance, leads special projects to meet corporate objectives engaging closely with other departments. Facilitates safety meetings and other safety processes. Depending on position may assume leadership roles in emergency and incident response.
Compliance May respond to requests for information from regulator and/or legal. Prepares legally required filings and reports. Ensures programs, policies, and procedures comply with applicable laws and regulations. Analyzes changes in regulations and recommends appropriate action.
Education Requires a bachelor’s degree in in biology, chemistry, environmental health and safety or other related field or equivalent experience.
Experience Typically, five or more years in safety, at least three of which are in industrial hygiene or toxicology.
Certifications, Licenses and Training Professional Engineering CIH (Certified Industrial Hygienist from the American Board of Industrial Hygiene) is required within one year of obtaining position.
