Purpose
Come join a creative team of energy engineers and meteorologists who develop and optimize wind and solar plants. As part of our strategic growth plan in renewable energy, Avangrid Renewables is seeking a Senior Energy Analyst / Meteorologist. In this role, you’ll perform wind and solar energy production assessments, assist in plant design, support R&D and tool automation, and maintain a presence at industry conferences and workshops. You’ll work in a supportive environment where accurate energy production estimates are critical to the success of the business and where innovation contributions are recognized and rewarded. This position reports to the Director of Energy Resources and Meteorology.
Responsibilities
Create meteorological monitoring campaigns, perform quality control of data, and conduct technical analyses of measured and modeled data to quantify wind resource characteristics.
Set-up, run, and interpret wind energy production models, such as OpenWind, including defensible losses supported by measured data, actual production and/or industry best-practices.
Code creative, optimized software applications and tools to enhance efficiency and accuracy
Design well-informed, optimized wind farm turbine layouts considering design standards, constructability, and environmental considerations.
Support or learn solar production modeling and design layout in PVsyst
Perform fleet performance reviews and apply lessons learned to pre-construction estimates
Conduct field visits and evaluate suitability of prospective turbine sites
Attend and participate in relevant industry conferences
Skills and Requirements
3+ years of industry-relevant experience in wind energy production modeling. Additional consideration will be given to candidates with both wind and solar production modeling experience.
1+ year of experience developing scripted tools in Python or equivalent
Bachelor’s degree in a technical field (meteorology, physics, math, engineering, renewables, or similar); preference may be given to candidates with relevant advanced degree(s).
Knowledge & Skills:
Software requirements: Python proficiency or equivalent, Windographer expert, OpenWind proficiency or equivalent, and Microsoft Excel.
Excellent organizational, communication, and problem-solving skills.
