Purpose

The Senior Director, Construction is responsible for managing the engineering, procurement, and construction activities necessaryfor all large capital projects including greenfield development, development acquisitions, and large operations projectsto develop, license/permit, erect, start-up, and commence commercial operation of between one and eight energy project sites at any given time, with total capital investment of $500m to $2bn

Responsibilities

The Senior Director of Construction is actively involved in the direct negotiations for the project and is responsible for the supervision of the project team, including project controls and site management.

Responsible for Owner's Project Management during project implementation phases on multiple energy projects (wind farms, combined cycle generation, gas storage).

Responsible for developing design, procurement and construction contracts during project pre-construction phases.

Responsible for negotiating multiple construction contracts using competitive bid techniques.

Directs managers, engineers and construction site managers to ensure that project milestones are met safely, on schedule, and within budget.

Ensures sufficient project staffing of internal and external resources during design and construction phases.

Develop a safety awareness culture, emphasized at the personal workplace, within project designs and throughout construction and operation.

Provides periodic updates on project activities, progress and issues to company senior management group.

Responsible for effective forecasting of company's capital budget spending on major projects.

Ensure process feedback for identifying process efficiencies and improvements, including process and functional quality audits, and focusing on retention of "lessons learned".

Ensures all relevant internal controls are followed and develops new controls as needed.

Skills and Requirements

  • Bachelor's Degree in Engineering or 15+ years related construction experience or the equivalent combination of education and experience.

  • Specific project engineering and construction experience.

  • Electric generation project development and project management, with a working knowledge of construction law, contracts, claims avoidance, insurance, and contract administration.

  • Familiar with multiple contract methods and risk management techniques

  • Proficiency using personal computer tools such Word and Excel.

  • Ability to travel 50% of the time.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience using project scheduling software such as Microsoft Project and Primavera .
