As part of our Engineering Services team, you will be a technical resource, driving leading-class energy solutions for our customers; full-service engineering, planning and technical services in support of our operations, maintenance and capital investments.
Summary
In this role you will coordinate with crews and other operations personnel to operate electric power distribution and transmission system to meet power demands with adequate distribution of electricity. You will also perform system analyses and provides real-time engineering support to ensure reliable operation of transmission and distribution systems and provide distribution engineering support for capital and maintenance activities. This position also recommends improvements associated with design and construction of overhead and underground distribution facilities, standards, operations, materials and new technology and operates and maintains facilities with emphasis on high reliability and quality of service. You will support field operations, customer account management, OPUC liaisons, planning and key stakeholder groups.
This role requires specialized depth and/or breadth of expertise with experience interpreting internal or external business issues and recommending best practices and solving complex problems. It will also take an individual with a broad perspective to identify innovative solutions, one that can work independently or with guidance in only the most complex situations. You may also lead functional teams or projects.
Responsibilities
Engineering Standards
Maintains currency in state-of-the-art engineering practices and discerns need for and provides guidance and direction to colleagues on engineering processes and standards. Provides professional engineering guidance and oversight on complex distribution standards and equipment specifications (e.g., switches, reclosers, network protectors, regulators, distribution automation equipment); provides expertise and oversight in distribution design and code interpretation to resolve broad and complex problems on the distribution system.
Engineering Production
Prepares a variety of complex engineering deliverables for larger or multiple projects, including establishing work plans to be applied across multiple disciplines. Leads complex system restoration efforts and consultation efforts with line crews, identifying broad and complex engineering analyses and solutions to complex distribution reliability problems; leads the scoping development and review of distribution expansion designs; provides mentoring of less experienced engineers; presents recommendations to senior management.
Project Coordination
Actively coordinates with other internal/external team members on complex projects, representing the team to internal and external stakeholders (i.e., regulatory, technical society, etc.). Proposes projects needed for expansion of the distribution system to add capacity and operational flexibility; provides recommendations to management for viable alternative solutions to complex distribution reliability and system-hardening problems; serves as work order owner for distribution maintenance, feeder getaway and underground core projects. Leads projects with impact across the distribution system.
Knowledge Sharing
Actively advances knowledge management of the enterprise and provides mentoring; participates in professional societies and technical committees and may assist with code/standard authoring; is externally recognized in the industry as a technical expert; reviews engineering work, resolves resource conflicts and identifies training needs.
Customer Support
Serves as a liaison to external customers; provides job status updates, requests additional design information, investigates outages and power quality issues, follows up on customer technical issues and provides information to Distribution Planning.
Customer Relations
Understands the wholistic impact of a customer relationship and builds trusted relationships working directly with customer’s senior management and technical staff; communicates complex concepts to customers.
Qualifications
Education: Requires a bachelor’s degree in engineering from ABET-accredited engineering program or program accredited by an equivalent agency.
Experience: *8 years or more years in engineering.
Certifications, Licenses and Training: Professional Engineering (PE) license required for principal-level position. Valid Driver's license required.
Preferred Qualifications
Expert knowledge of engineering and economic principles and concepts.
Advanced knowledge of other engineering disciplines and advanced ability to interpret engineering deliverable content as assigned.
Expert knowledge and application of engineering processes and procedures; intermediate knowledge of other related departments and functions.
Advanced industry knowledge and technology trends.
Advanced knowledge of company QA/QC process and procedures.
Intermediate knowledge of construction feasibility.
Intermediate knowledge of procurement and contract administration.
Advanced knowledge of process and procedures for project controls and estimates.
Advanced knowledge of applicable codes and standards related to the design and operation of the electrical distribution system. Intermediate skill designing overhead and underground distribution facilities, including relevant civil and electrical subsystems.
Advanced knowledge of real-time and off-line power flow and power system analysis software applications.
Advanced knowledge of work management, asset management, GIS and outage-management software applications.
Advanced knowledge of distribution protection schemes and device-coordination principles.
Compensation Range:
$102,000.00 - $170,000.00
In addition, this position is eligible for a performance-based incentive bonus. Actual total compensation is commensurate with experience, skills, and education
