Job Function

Design — Plant

Provides civil, electrical and mechanical design expertise and services for generating plants and facilities.

Key Responsibilities

Plant Design Management

Manages a team of plant design staff responsible for providing civil, electrical and mechanical design expertise and services for generating plants and facilities; provides technical management for the team, ensuring that objectives are met and all relevant standards/procedures are followed; ensures that process flow problems are identified and resolved; ensures that operational procedures and working practices are current and fit for the purpose.

As-Builts

Ensures timely completion of as-built drawings, resolution of complex “as building” problems, and that as-built expectation are met; assigns resources and ensures department objectives for as-built backlog are met; ensures that accurate as-built features are recorded in permanent as-built drawing records and archived.

Geographic Information System (GIS)

Oversees Generation GIS functions, including GIS mapping, analysis and applications for generation-related data; oversees quality assurance for GIS software systems and mapping; maintains knowledge of trends and developments in the GIS field to apply to GIS function.

Computer-Aided Drafting (CAD) Standards

Owns and implements the CAD standards for engineering services; ensures standards are aligned with the National CAD Standard and industry best practices; ensures standards are communicated to CAD users and that design and drafting work meets established guidelines and engineering services CAD standards.

Drawing Management System

Oversees the drawing management system; evaluates, recommends and implements changes to the drawing management system; owns and maintains drawing management system procedures and job aids; refines and monitors drawing lifecycle process; identifies and evaluates technology improvements and enhancements to align with industry best-practice for design; evaluates and implements hardware systems to ensure software systems perform at optimum level; ensures drafting and design software licensing and maintenance are current.

Financial Management

Monitors and manages expenditures, ensuring that all financial targets are met, and examines any areas where budgets/expenditures vary from plan; assists with the definition and operation of effective financial controls and decision making.

Resourcing

Oversees resourcing decisions and planning for team; partners with HR in the definition of jobs, recruitment, evaluation and selection processes.

Professional Development

Reviews organizational development needs and training strategies to determine required learning and development outcomes for the team; provides guidance in the creation of development plans; monitors ongoing progress and provides coaching and mentoring and provides feedback; completes annual performance management reviews.

Education/Experience/Certifications

Education

Requires a bachelor’s degree in engineering technology or other related field or equivalent experience.

Experience

Prefer eight or more years in electrical, mechanical or civil design, drafting or related field.
