Manager of Grid Management Systems
As a Manager of Grid Management Systems under Integrated Grid Organization in PGE, you will build a better tomorrow. In this job, you will manage a team of employees, consultants and partners to develop and deploy Grid Modernization platform that will house Advanced Distribution Management System, Distributed Energy Resources Management System, Outage Management System and develop appropriate solutions to manage distribution grid reliability. The team will also design and develop solutions to address planning and engineering modernization efforts to address DER growth.
You will have an opportunity to design and develop solutions, coordinate, and implementation of strategies to integrate zero-carbon resources, energy storage, distributed resources, electric vehicles and smart-grid and other emerging technologies within PGE’s system and North West electric grid.
You will review developments in electricity and emission markets within Oregon, the United States and elsewhere to determine best practices and to develop new and innovative designs to address the rapidly evolving grid modernization framework. Job Specific Responsibilities
Provides leadership for the design, development, deployment, and support of Grid Solutions required for PGE Grid Operations to achieve its objectives.
Acts as the Senior Technology Leader working closely with the ADMS/DERMS/OMS Program Manager on the Integrated Grid Platform program scope, management, requirements, execution
Acts as a liaison between the IT organization, business partners and other stakeholders
Aligns and manages the execution of a technology roadmap(s).
Evaluates and assesses program risk as part of the lifecycle analysis of Integrated Grid portfolio
Defines or refines metrics that will demonstrate the positive impact of Grid Modernization portfolio management on the business.
Recommends and implements plans to optimize Grid Investment which may include reducing and containing IT costs and enhancing business capabilities to increase customer satisfaction.
General Management: Oversees a team of highly technical supervisors and/or professional employees responsible for transmission and distribution activities, ensuring that objectives are met and all relevant standards/procedures are followed; ensures that operational problems are identified and resolved; ensures that operational procedures and working practices are current and fit for the purpose; provides technical guidance, analysis and expertise; ensures compliance with all relevant laws, regulations and policies.
Work Oversight: Manages various technical functions of assigned area. Establishes staffing plans, work plans and budgets as necessary to ensure resources and programs are in place to effectively manage activities; determines the extent supplemental labor and/or contractors may be needed for contingencies. Develops and monitors short- and long-range plans and performance metrics, monitors productivity against metrics. May participate in annual regional planning and direct restoration activities during outages; may determine major restoration methods and directs implementation; assigns and serves on duty weeks. Ensures that communications systems are in place so that all personnel are aware of and support the company’s Strategic Direction.
Strategy and Planning: In collaboration with other managers, develops overall strategy and vision for teams to ensure power reaches customers in a safe, efficient manner in compliance with all applicable laws and regulations; oversees development of scorecard metrics for teams; develops and implements plans to facilitate employee engagement.
Project Management: Depending on specialty area(s) assigned may oversee major capital projects with technical or engineering components, including development of scope and success criteria, managing capital budget, procuring resources and overseeing outsourced work, managing project scheduling, collaborating with other groups, and overseeing overall implementation.
Program Management: Depending on area(s) assigned, may manage or oversee major distribution or transmission operational programs design and management, ensuring programs meet corporate and departmental goals integrate with one another and adapting programs to meet emerging needs; ensures programs align to one another and processes integrate; facilitate power delivery to customers in a safe and efficient manner through program development and implementation.
Internal Collaboration: Serves as a technical subject matter expert and provides or directs others to provide input, guidance and expertise to other departments related to standards, regulations, processes or resolution to highly technical issues; collaborates with other departments to ensure programs and projects align to ensure safe and efficient overall operation of the transmission and distribution system; ensures goals and strategic objectives align with a customer focus.
Vendor Management: May develop overall work optimization strategy and determine which programs or tasks to outsource; may oversee vendor selection, establishing metrics and service level agreements, monitoring vendor performance and working with vendors to resolve issues; may oversee vendor negotiations. May verify vendor operational performance to technical standards.
Financial Management: Monitors and manages expenditures, ensuring that all financial targets are met, and examines any areas where budgets/expenditures vary from plan; assists with the definition and operation of effective financial controls and decision making.
Resourcing: Oversees resourcing decisions and planning for team; partners with HR in the definition of jobs, recruitment, evaluation, and selection processes.
Professional Development: Reviews organizational development needs and training strategies to determine required learning and development outcomes for the team; provides guidance in the creation of development plans; monitors ongoing progress and provides coaching and mentoring and provides feedback; completes annual performance management reviews.
Bachelor’s degree in engineering, IT, or other related technical field or equivalent experience.
Eight or more years in a technical role in utility distribution with at least three years of leadership experience.
