The Indirect Tax Manager will be responsible for evolving and maintaining a team of tax professionals focused on successfully navigating tax administration for existing and emerging policy and business strategies, supporting stakeholders across the organization while minimizing risk and identifying and implementing efficiencies in all areas of indirect tax administration. This role will provide tactical leadership, monitoring and coaching while driving the implementation of tools and process enhancements designed to positively impact how the team is able to deliver for the business operations across the United States. A key feature of the role will be the ability to draw upon and translate the knowledge, learning and expertise held across Avangrid’s business into the tax team’s strategies to implement change and integrate more fully with key business areas (Development, Structuring, Accounting, Legal, Operations, Purchasing) while mitigating risk. This individual will lead a team distributed across the U.S. and will have a solid background in a multistate sales tax environment and strong leadership skills. Experience with construction, credits/incentives, or renewable energy is a plus.

  • Liaise with cross function teams across the Global Business to facilitate decisions and resolve portfolio/project risks and issues.

  • Ensure external consultants supporting tax team objectives deliver to agreed specifications.

  • Create a performance culture via an environment of accountability for performance and results; set expectations, support development and reward contributions.

  • Oversee complete compliance process with timely reporting, reconciliation, accounting, and payment.

  • Oversee administration of tax technology including updates, maintenance, and configuration of the sales/use tax engine and interface with corporate accounting platform

  • Research and analysis of tax laws, regulations, rulings, court cases for company impact and track identified risks in accordance with SOX requirements.

  • Create and manage processes to ensure that knowledge and best practices are established for US renewables projects including advising and supporting efforts to navigate available exemption and incentive programs

  • Prioritize work and deliver results whilst managing multiple stakeholders and competing demands within a rapidly changing environment.

  • Participate in special projects and guide the company on various initiatives

Skills and Requirements

Job Requirements

  • BS/BA Degree in Accounting, Finance or Tax and 8+ years’ relevant experience; or equivalent combination of education and experience. CPA, MBA, MST preferred.

  • Prior management experience and leadership skills

  • Ability to articulate messages and translate tax concerns to a variety of audiences and at all levels of organization.
