The Director of Technical Services, for Avangrid Renewables leads multiple teams of highly-skilled individuals whose purpose is to technically support the reliable, efficient, and safe operation of a nationwide fleet of utility-scale, renewable-energy power plants. In specific the Technical Services team is responsible for providing 2nd level of technical support in field operations, as well as designing and coordinating fleet improvement projects.
Manages several teams of expert engineering and technical services personnel in support of Avangrid’s generation fleet, including but not limited to; wind, photovoltaic solar, energy storage.
Interacts with multiple domestic and international cross-functional teams, technology-specific consulting organizations, and industry subject-matter experts.
Drives Original Equipment Manufacturer's engineering departments to solve operational issues within the original scope of supply.
Provides Avangrid’s Senior Leadership with comprehensive analytics and reporting of the performance of renewable-energy generation facilities.
Manages Root Cause Analysis efforts on any component or sub-system that does not perform to expectation.
Supports Sourcing on any and all warranty claims as well as evaluating cost-optimized spare parts selection.
Performs comprehensive design review on any technology under consideration for purchase as well as on proposed design changes at the component or sub-system level.
Ensures priorities are focused on optimizing asset performance on both an individual unit and fleet-wide basis. Reviews existing component performance, potential replacement component design, implements validation testing, and provides feedback as necessary to achieve reliable and cost-effective operation.
Skills and Requirements
Engineering degree in any of the applicable Engineering disciplines (Electrical, Mechanical, Civil, etc.).
10 or more years’ experience in power generation or related industry, in technical positions.
5 or more years’ experience and demonstrated success as a leader in utility-scale, renewable-energy engineering.
Demonstrated success in improving power plant energy production and reliability.
Demonstrated success in containing operations and maintenance costs through improved processes and improved equipment design.
Advanced or multiple Engineering degree(s).
Affiliation with the Department of Energy and/or National Renewable Energy Laboratory.
Additional degree or demonstrated experience in Business Administration or Finance.
Ability to navigate and succeed in a highly matrixed, international reporting structure
