Data Scientist Summary

Portland General Electric (PGE) is seeking a talented Data Scientist to join our Workforce Planning Team. This role is pivotal to executing the HR Organization’s data strategy which is designed to align HR practices with business priorities, help solve business problems through informed decision making, and prepare the future workforce by responding to changing workforce dynamics.

In this role, you will partner with key HR teams to develop data visualizations to uncover insights that inform workforce planning, talent management activities and meet business needs. You will be directly responsible for growing advanced reporting capabilities and developing statistical and predictive analytic models so HR and business leaders can better identify workforce trends and partner to provide actionable solutions. You will build talent reports designed for decision making and dashboards for ongoing tracking, monitoring and assessment of key metrics.

Additionally, you will work closely with the Data Strategy and Management team in determining data requirements and integrations and will partner to stay on top of innovations in the data science field.

Responsibilities

A successful candidate will have the ability to work independently, consult with clients, solve complex problems, analyze data, identify gaps, and make recommendations. You will also be responsible for:

  • Collect, clean, validate and integrate large datasets from various HR systems and sources

  • Build predictive models and machine learning algorithms to derive insights from HR data

  • Identify relationships and patterns in talent management data, compensation, benefits, performance, retention, and other workforce data

  • Develop dynamic visualizations and dashboards to communicate insights to leadership

  • Collaborate with HR Talent Management team and business partners to improve talent programs based on data analysis

  • Independently executes data quality checks and reviews data to ensure alignment with PGE’s compliance, access management and control policies

  • Keep up-to-date on latest data science and HR analytics methodologies and tools

Requirements

  • MS in Statistics, Mathematics, Computer Science, Analytics, or related field

  • 3+ years experience in HR analytics or people analytics

  • Expertise building ML models and advanced statistical analysis

  • Intermediate/advanced programming skills with Python, R, SQL, data visualization tools (Tableau, etc.)

  • Knowledge of cloud AWS/GCP/Azure and automation framework preferred

  • Intermediate ability to develop simple predictive models and represent the models with visualizations

  • Strong communication and presentation skills

  • Intermediate/advanced business acumen and analytical thinking skills

  • Passion for leveraging data to provide HR insights

Nice to have

  • Experience with large datasets and data pipelines

  • Knowledge of HR systems and metrics

  • Familiarity with Power BI

Schedule

Hybrid role with minimum of 1 day (Thursday) required in office

In addition, this position is eligible for a performance-based incentive bonus. Actual total compensation is commensurate with experience, skills, and education.

Compensation Range:

$100,200.00 - $167,000.00

Actual total compensation, including a performance based incentive bonus, is commensurate with experience, skills, qualifications, education, training, and internal equity. While we anticipate the selected candidate for this position will fall towards the middle or entry point of the compensation range, the decision will be made on a case-by-case basis.
