Purpose

The Director, Technical Accounting is responsible for the accounting standards in accordance with US GAAP and IFRS, and the application of technical accounting across the Avangrid Group (AGR), which includes both regulated and non-regulated business affiliates in the Power and Utilities industry. This position will have two direct reports. He or she will be responsible for providing the strategic direction for the technical accounting team and acting as AGR’s subject matter expert for technical accounting matters.

This position will partner closely with Business Control, Financial Planning & Analysis, Investment Planning & Analysis, Tax, Treasury and other teams across the organization to provide technical accounting guidance to ensure transactions are accounted for accurately. He or she will partner with the SEC Reporting team to prepare and review sections of AGR’s quarterly SEC filings (10-Q/K) and build strong relationships with external and internal auditors.

Responsibilities

•Provide oversight of technical accounting policies and proactively assess the impact of new U.S. GAAP and IFRS accounting standards.

•Communicate accounting policies and quality standards to the rest of the AGR Subsidiary Accounting Teams.

•Coordinate with IB.SA all Group policies regarding IFRS, related with updates, new standards implementation or accounting memos.

•Proactively participate in the analysis of complex accounting matters, communicating results succinctly for non-accountants to understand

•Ensure that accounting policies are well understood and partner with various teams to reinforce and operationalize accounting policies

•Establish themselves as a key business partner and “go-to” resource to provide technical accounting guidance to senior management and others

•Support AGR’s quarterly, annual SEC filings, and IFRS reporting, and partner with the SEC Reporting team during the quarterly reporting cycle

•Embed a culture of teamwork and continuous process improvement to drive efficiency and future scalability with excellent customer service levels

•Lead cross-functional and cross-regional implementation of various finance initiatives

•Influence decision making within a matrix management structure that positively impacts strategic business objectives

•Develop a team of high-performing professionals that add-value and contribute to AGR’s success

•Incorporate and maintain SOX controls within the Technical Accounting function

•Work closely with the external and internal auditors to ensure timely and successful resolution of technical accounting matters.

Skills and Requirements

JOB REQUIREMENTS:

Education & Experience Required:

•A minimum of 12 years’ experience, with regulated utility accounting preferred

•Bachelor’s Degree in Accounting, Finance or related field required

•CPA or Chartered/Certified Accountant licensed required and public accounting/auditing firm experience

•Progressive accounting or financial experience in a management role required, working in a large and fast paced environment

•Experience in preparation or audit of financial statements required

•SEC accounting, reporting and disclosure experience preferred.

Skills/Abilities:

•Thorough knowledge of US GAAP and IFRS, strong technical writing skills and experience in the implementation and handling of complex U.S. GAAP and IFRS accounting matters with proven ability to research and clearly articulate and document complex technical accounting issues

•Ability to work well under pressure; strong problem-solving skills and ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously

•Excellent inter-personal skills and a proven ability to build and maintain stakeholder relationships at all levels

•Ability to think strategically and support business objectives while effectively balancing risk/reward trade-offs

•Strong communication, interpersonal and influencing skills and ability to work effectively in a matrix management structure in a complex and diverse, multi-cultural environment

•Self-directed and motivated to continuously improve processes to exceed customer expectations and help promote a best-in-class organization

•Knowledge of FERC accounting standards preferred

•Strong leadership skills required

•Technical accounting knowledge for Utilities and Power industry
