SEMCO - Accounting Summer Students
SEMCO is seeking two Students for our Accounting team this summer! As an Accounting Summer Student at SEMCO, you will support the team by assisting with various accounting projects, tasks, and initiatives. This summer internship provides an excellent opportunity to gain practical experience in the various aspects of accounting and financial analysis.
Work Term: Monday, May 17th to Friday, August 22nd, 2025.
What You'll Do:
Gain hands-on experience in various areas of accounting including accounts payable, regulatory, and fixed asset accounting.
Participate in the creation of schedules to be used for supporting regulatory filings.
Research accounting-related topics, such as best practices, new pronouncements, new technologies, etc.
Collaborate with cross-functional teams, including Engineering, Operations and Construction.
Contribute to process improvement initiatives by identifying and documenting opportunities for greater efficiency.
Perform administrative tasks to support departmental objectives.
What You Bring:
Currently pursuing a bachelor’s degree in accounting or finance.
Age 18+ Plan to return to studies in Fall 2025 following the work term.
Possess a valid driver's license.
Ability to work from our Port Huron corporate office, 40 hours per week during the work term.
Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail.
Basic knowledge and understanding of accounting principles.
Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint).
Excellent analytical and problem-solving abilities.
Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
Ability to work collaboratively in a team environment and independently when needed.
Positive attitude with a willingness to learn.
The hourly pay rate for this role is $15 per hour for first-year students and $17 per hour for Students who have previously worked for SEMCO Energy.
