About Transmission and Distribution

Southern California Edison’s (SCE's) Transmission and Distribution Organizational Unit (T & D) is responsible for planning, engineering, constructing, operating, and maintaining transmission and distribution facilities throughout the 50,000-square-mile territory. T&D is the steward of roughly $19 billion in assets that safely and reliably deliver electricity to 14 million residents via SCE’s 5 million customer accounts .

Position Overview

This position reports to the senior manager of Engineering Operational Services within T&D Engineering. The successful candidate will manage a group of 10 individuals (construction material coordinators, project analysts and technical specialists) responsible for initiating/tracking major substation equipment purchase requisitions and initiating/tracking engineering design contractor and services contracts. The Manager will be responsible for the oversight of all substation major equipment ordering and Engineering contract services. This includes managing the initiation of equipment ordering requests, reconciling payment for materials/services received, managing order approval process workflows, tracking vendor equipment deliveries, adhering to project schedules, and negotiating project milestone payments for vendors with our procurement organization. This position will interface with our Procurement representatives, Responsible Substation Design Engineers, Apparatus Engineers, Project Managers, Manufacturers, and outside Engineering Design firms .

Typical responsibilities include

  • Managing a technical team, providing strategic direction, evaluating employee performance, communicating results, providing technical leadership, and scheduling work assignments.

  • Manages the ordering approval workflow process, approves equipment orders, provides process guidance to engineers and construction clients, troubleshoots procurement/vendor issues, manages schedule changes, provides milestone payment strategy, and manages surplus equipment reconciliation, including making decisions to salvage or movement of equipment purchased to other existing projects.

  • Coordinating business activities, including allocation of resources.

  • Interpreting tracked data to drive performance and reports on progress related to process improvement initiatives regarding equipment ordering cycle times.

  • Performing other duties and responsibilities as assigned .

Minimum qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree

  • Must have a minimum of 4 years of experience managing and/or supervising a team

  • Experience with financial processes and/or purchasing/receipting

Desired qualifications

  • BA degree in Business, Economics, or Finance

  • Experience developing and writing processes that support a standardized format.

  • Experience managing the processes and the criteria/governance for tracking and evaluating the effectiveness of the work that the group/organization completes.

  • Experience managing and coordinating business activities in line with established policies and procedures.

  • Experience managing resources to meet strategic objectives and operational needs.

  • Experience establishing performance expectations, employee performance evaluation criteria, and goals aligned with Company objectives, policies and procedures.

  • Demonstrated strong oral and written communication skills, including the use of Word, PowerPoint, Excel and SharePoint

  • Must demonstrate strong ethics, influence and negotiation, leadership, interpersonal skills, communication, and the ability to effectively manage stress and engage in continuous learning.

  • Knowledge of the SAP Purchase Requisition (PREQ) process, or of other industry purchasing processes .


  • Candidates for this position must be legally authorized to work directly as employees for any employer in the United States without visa sponsorship.

  • Occasional travel via personal vehicle to other SCE business locations located within the service territory. Frequency of twice per month to once a week.

  • This position has been identified as a NERC/CIP impacted position - Prior to being hired, the successful candidate must pass a Personnel Risk Assessment (PRA) or Background Investigation. Once hired, the candidate must complete specified training prior to gaining un-escorted access to assigned work location and performing necessary job duties.
