Become a Senior Engineer, Asset Engineering at Southern California Edison (SCE) and build a better tomorrow. In this job, you’ll be responsible for providing technical leadership on Substation Asset Engineering such as transformers, circuit breakers, disconnects, DC systems, design standards, develop equipment specifications, support pilots for Wildfire Mitigation Plan (WMP). This position provides a critical role towards achieving our corporate goal on safety, reliability, and capital engineering designs, Asset Strategies. You will support strategic engineering activities related to capital projects. This position will report to the Manager of Asset Engineering organization. The successful candidate will be leading the strategic equipment specification development that will form the basis for new equipment and materials that will be used on the SCE grid for years into the future; leading the development, specification, and quality assurance of major electrical substation and distribution system equipment and material supply.

Lead the organizations responsible for operating and maintaining the grid receive adequate material and equipment support to maintain day-to-day operations of the grid
Review work scopes, timelines, and substantial risks as well as aligning effort, activities, and deliverables with departmental strategies
Provide technical engineering support to a range of equipment implementations of the substations systems
Lead teams working on testing new technologies, alternate products and alternate suppliers
Update/create SCE technical equipment specifications used by Procurement for purchasing equipment
Provide technical expertise for Design, Maintenance, Standards, and Claims Department for assigned product lines
Support device testing with field crews to verify devices meet specifications after installment
Work with manufactures to improve and develop equipment for use in the SCE system.
Support system data review for General Rate Case (GRC) testimony
Manage the evaluation, development, and implementation of new equipment
Serve as an expert for the organization in a specific area or responsibility
Provide training and direction to other engineers
Create and maintain a safety conscious work environment by leading and influencing others to follow Edison safety protocol and safe work practices
Perform other duties and responsibilities as assigned
Qualifications
The essentials
Bachelor's Degree (or higher) in Engineering
Seven or more years of combined technical/lead/supervisory experience in engineering, substation engineering, equipment commissioning, apparatus engineering
The preferred
Electrical Engineering, preferred
Technical experience in distribution, substation, and/or transmission engineering related to the application of electrical apparatus in substations and distribution systems
Experience performing and supports studies and field tests for resolution of malfunctions or field issues with an assigned equipment product line
Experience with industry standards (IEEE, IEC, ANSI, etc), codes and practices
Experience with automation control systems design
Experience leading the development, specification, and quality assurance of major electrical substation equipment and material supply
Experience identifying and resolving issues related to projects, equipment installation, and equipment maintenance
Experience with root cause analysis for malfunctions and device failures
Experience developing and presenting technical and business information in formal and informal settings
Experience providing customer service to both internal and external clients
Effective resource and project planning, decision making, results delivery
Strong ethics, influence and negotiation, leadership, interpersonal skills, communication, and the ability to effectively manage stress and engage in continuous learning
You should know
This position’s work mode is hybrid . The employee will report to an SCE facility for a set number of days with the option to work remotely on the remaining days. Unless otherwise noted, employees are required to reside in the state of California. Further details of this work mode will be discussed at the interview stage.
