About Transmission and Distribution

Southern California Edison’s (SCE's) Transmission and Distribution Organizational Unit (T & D) is responsible for planning, engineering, constructing, operating, and maintaining transmission and distribution facilities throughout the 50,000-square-mile territory. T&D is the steward of roughly $19 billion in assets that safely and reliably deliver electricity to 14 million residents via SCE’s 5 million customer accounts.

Position Overview

The Principal Manager of Substation Construction and Maintenance (SC&M) develops and implements strategies for the substation construction organization which is responsible for the physical construction and execution of small to large scale load growth, infrastructure replacement and major substation projects. Plans, directs and drives the development of annual and/or long-term plans to support operations. Manages resources and budget levels to meet strategic objectives and operational needs. Manages employee performance, establish performance expectations and goals aligned with company objectives, policies and procedures.

Responsibilities may include:

  • Leading a construction organization with a wide variety of trades that have the skills, expertise, and resources capable of nearly all aspects of substation construction projects.

  • Manages Equipment Services responsible for high voltage transformer assembly and testing, salvaging and asset recovering of retired substation electrical equipment, SF6 gas handling and standards lab.

  • Leads substation construction material operations, plans remote material yard locations and controls material handling for all major projects.

  • Develops and manages quality control/assurance of all SC&M projects. Ensures adherence to related policies and procedure for both internal and contractor executed work.

  • Provide safety leadership and direction in the development of programs and processes for elimination of injuries, accidents and performance errors, including leadership in the development, interpretation, implementation and enforcement of safety rules, policies and practices.

  • Manages, trains and develops staff by providing timely feedback, coaching and support.

Qualifications

Minimum Qualifications

  • Seven years’ experience managing a technical organization and/or electrical construction project management team.

  • Must have lead a diverse team focused on innovation, change management and employee development.

Desired Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Engineering, Business or related technical discipline

  • Demonstrated knowledge ofSubstation Construction, Maintenance and Design standards, OSHA regulations, safety work practices and procedures and labor contracts.

  • Extensive experience in managing field construction and advanced abilities in resource planning, project schedules, budget projections, identifying and mitigating obstacles, and managing construction of interrelated projects of high complexity and impact to the organization.

  • Experience developing and implementing strategic business plans that have a large impact on the organization and prioritizing strategic initiatives.

  • Experience in resource planning, cost control and accounting, in addition to knowledge of their impact to the regional budgeting process.

  • Experience developing and implementing strategic plans, and facilitating forums to capture the requirements of business strategy.

  • Experience interfacing and/or collaborating with internal/external clients, governmental agencies, all levels of employees, managers within and across business units, and corporate officers to develop solutions and facilitate cooperation between departments.

  • Ability to achieve results through others by prioritizing activities, delegating and monitoring the progress of assignments, and holding employees accountable for results.

  • Demonstrated ability to create a positive high performance work environment.
