Engineering and Design of substation electrical facilities while acting as the Responsible Engineer for all voltage levels (up to 500kV) substation projects and resolving technical issues associated with substation engineering.
Develops preliminary scope of work based on project summary/description provided from sponsors.
Schedules/Conducts pre-engineering job walk meetings with stakeholders (Construction, Maintenance, Operations, IT, Telecomm, Field Engineering, Test, etc.)
Creates/Reviews/Approves/Publishes pre-engineering job walk meeting minutes.
Creates/Reviews/Approves/Publishes design specification documents.
Ensures assigned projects are meeting scope, schedule, cost and CDM issue dates.
Orders major equipment in a timely manner to meet material want dates.
Manage various in-house design projects by providing technical engineering and design support to the design team as well as providing training and directions.
Manages various engineering contractors and working with those contractors to ensure consistency and quality of design, delivery milestone dates, and cost.
Reviews/Evaluates/Approves engineering contractor design cost estimates on direct award and/or competitive bidding projects.
Participate in the mentoring and training of new engineers as required to help develop the technical expertise of the Substation Projects group..
Reviews/Approve Purchase requisitions, change orders and service sheets through Ariba.
Provides technical support to field personnel and other internal/external stakeholders and project related team members as required.
Provides engineering support for on-ongoing operational needs to support service reliability and meet other related compliance requirements, such as emergent projects and/or stakeholder’s request and emergencies as well as North American Electric Reliability Corporation (NERC) compliance and reporting.
Coordinating with multiple disciplines to determine scope and cost for interconnecting generators and large customer load to the SCE grid.
Providing scope for substation elements of interconnection and method of service studies
Create and maintain a safety conscious work environment by leading and influencing others to follow Edison safety protocols and safe work practices.
Working with AutoCAD, Bluebeam, Design Manager, and Issuing Design Specification(s) & Design packages thru SCE internal electronic process
Qualifications
The essentials
Bachelor’s Degree or higher in Electrical Engineering or Bachelor’s Degree in a Scientific/Technical/Math field
Five (5) or more years of experience in substation engineering and design
The preferred
General knowledge and experience with guides, standards, codes, and methods to perform complex assignments
Five (5) years or more years of engineering experience
General knowledge and experience with regulations, guides, standards, codes, methods, and practices necessary to perform complex assignments for a specific discipline, various installations, or services
Professional Engineer License (P.E.) in State of California
Project Management Certification
Experience and strong understanding of SCE’s substation design standards and specification
You should know
This position’s work mode is *hybrid. * The employee will report to an SCE facility for a set number of days with the option to work remotely on the remaining days. Unless otherwise noted, employees are required to reside in the state of California. Further details of this work mode will be discussed at the interview stage.
This position has been identified as a NERC/CIP impacted position - Prior to being hired, the successful candidate must pass a Personnel Risk Assessment (PRA) or Background Investigation. Once hired, the candidate must complete specified training prior to gaining un-escorted access to assigned work location and performing necessary job duties.
