In this job, under Central Design & Engineering (CD&E) in Distribution Engineering’s (DE) Resource & Project Management (RPM) team, you will focus on Capital Project Coordination and Workplan Management and will be reside on the RPM Project Coordination sub-team.

The DE RPM Team is responsible for providing services in support of DE’s core functions that impact the organization and span across our 10 Field Engineer Regions, Distribution Automation, and Power Quality teams. The DE RPM team’s four major workstreams, include (1) Capital Project Coordination and Workplan Management, (2) Staffing/Resource Management and Operational & Business Planning, (3) Recruitment, Training, & Process Improvements, and (4) Technology Development & Data Management. This position will focus on Capital Project Coordination and Workplan Management and is responsible for regular collaboration across CD&E and with our Engineering partners, such as Asset Strategy & Planning, Portfolio Management, Distribution Project Management, and Protection Engineering organizations. The RPM Project Coordination Engineer 3 will act as a Capital Projects commodity owner, managing specific Capital commodities, work assignments, and deliverables. In addition, the Project Coordination Engineer 3 is accountable for emergent and ad hoc requests. This position will require the ability to build strong business relationships, and an individual with impressive interpersonal, communication, and technical skills.

A day in the life - Get ready to think big, work smart and shine bright!

  • Manage the intake and output of assigned Distribution Engineering Capital commodity scoping work, reoccurring engineering tasks, and ad-hoc special project assignments. Acting as a lead spokesperson providing expert advice and presents counsel to the Field Engineers.

  • Become a Capital commodity-owner and subject-matter expert on assigned capital scoping projects, internal training, and related tasks. Work independently to manage projects from initial request through to completion.

  • Utilize engineer expertise to define priority-level of work , resource needs, detailed instructions, and a balanced delegation of work to Field Engineer Regions. Responsible for report-out presentations to the management team on project status and performance.

  • Working as a lead representative for DE, expected to make decisions on behalf of the organization and create a strong partnership with our ASP partners on strategy, capacity planning, and workplan management discussions.

  • Leads efforts in process improvements and partners with Distribution Engineering Training Team (DETT) regularly, to create new and revised Just-in-time’s (JIT) training or Job Task Aid’s (JTA) are warranted. Lead the development and coordination of JIT, JTAs, and/or reference material on distribution capital strategy and scoping methodology.

Qualifications

The essentials

  • Five (5) or more years of Engineering experience

  • Bachelor Degree in Engineering or STEM degree (science, technology, engineering or mathematics)

  • Experience with utility distribution, planning, operations, and/or distribution equipment.

  • Must reside in Southern California, in reasonable driving distance from Pomona, CA

The preferred

  • Project Management Experience

  • Six (6) or more years of Distribution Engineering and/or System Planning experience

  • Nine (9) or more years Distribution Planning Experience

  • Experience working across multiple disciplines, interdepartmental teams, and engaging with internal and external suppliers and stakeholders

  • Experience with planning, analyzing, designing, evaluating, implementing, and satisfying project requirements

  • Ability to explain sophisticated technical concepts in simple terms to both technical and non-technical personnel

  • General knowledge and experience with regulations, guides, standards, codes, methods, and practices necessary to perform assignments for a specific discipline, various installations, or services

  • Ability to demonstrate strong ethics, interpersonal, and communication skills

  • The position’s work mode is remote .Employee is able to work primarily at home or remote however, the employee may be expected to come to an SCE facility on occasion.
