In this job, you will be working closely with SCE’s Aerial Inspection Team and will partner with other team members to perform a review of SCE assets and identify and assess Transmission & Distribution (T&D) equipment condition in high fire SCE territory. As an Engineer 3 of Maintenance and Inspections (M&I) Program Oversight, you will act as a subject matter liaison between Aerial Inspections and Transmission/Distribution Engineering, Quality Assurance/Quality Control (QA/QC), construction methods, failure analysis group, asset management, and other departments to ensure trends in equipment/component damage are identified and brought to the awareness of the respective engineering organization for standard creation or construction method improvement. The Engineer 3 will turn data into critical information and insights that can be used to make sound business decisions. This includes providing data that is congruent and reliable. You need to be a dynamic teammate, creative thinker and propose innovative ways to look at problems by using analytics approaches on the sets of information available.

This position will report directly to the Senior Manager of the Maintenance & Inspection Oversight Program team in the Asset Management Strategy and Engineering (AMSE) department of the T&D organization.

  • Lead and coordinate cross-functional teams to improve inspection oversight activities related to the Aerial Inspection program

  • Provide strong technical/engineering mentorship and expertise for sound decisions to improve Aerial Inspections and required remediations

  • Perform engineering tasks associated with the Aerial Inspection team, including recommendations for systems and processes

  • Validate and submit Priority 2 repair notifications in SAP, utilizing the appropriate problem statements, after assessing and validating the condition of the asset

  • Using images from helicopters and drones (aerial inspections) to identify discrepancies in T&D construction and standards regarding structures and apparatus, and to identify and trend equipment/apparatus anomalies

  • Attend and participate in Standard Review Team meetings for T&D as the M&I subject matter expert

  • Perform quality review inspections of structures, that have already been assessed by inspectors, in which no issues were found

  • Collaborate with colleagues in assigning tasks through multiple communication platforms to achieve desired goals and deadlines

  • Work in a dynamic environment tackling department challenges that can range from the analysis of training issues among condition assessors to addressing potential T&D equipment/structure issues

  • May participate in department planning and monitor performance for the accomplishment of committed results.

  • Provide information, present findings and recommendations to stakeholders, senior management and to relevant SCE engineering departments concerning issues related to Quality Review findings and condition assessments

  • Work closely with advisors and leaders to assist on developing solutions to continuance business problems

  • Collaborate with other inspection teams across the department on data analytics and tools to improve and enable our analytics capabilities

  • Accountable for compiling and presenting findings, lessons learned, and current trends in Aerial Inspections to management and outside partners


The essentials

  • Bachelor's Degree or higher in Engineering or STEM field

  • Five (5) or more years of Engineering experience

The preferred

  • Professional Engineering(PE) License

  • Experience with transmission and/or distribution standard requirements, including CPUC General Orders (e.g., GO 95, 128, 165, 174 etc.)

  • Familiarity with T&D Design Standards, Overhead Construction Standards, and Maintenance & Inspection Standards

  • Experience and understanding of T&D Maintenance & Inspection programs, compliance requirements, and engineering standard deviations

  • Experience advising or leading cross-functional teams to address and solve business and engineering issues

  • Experience developing tools for data acquisition, extraction, transformation, management, and manipulation of large and complex data sets

  • Experience in coding language such as Excel VBA, C++, Python, Java

  • Experience with exploring, modeling, mining, and experimenting with data to resolve critical business issues

  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills and strong interpersonal skills

  • Strong problem-solving ability

  • Ability to thrive in a dynamic environment and be able to work independently
