As a Distribution Engineer 3 in Grid Policy & Strategy you will be part of a team that helps modernize electric system planning and integrate DERs into system planning processes. We work on the front lines with policy makers and collaborate with internal and external stakeholders to influence how California electric utilities will transform the grid to integrate DERs and to combat the increasing hazards of climate change.

Supportimplementation of CPUC requirements from Distribution Resources Plan (DRP) Proceedings
Ensure all compliance requirements are met with SCE’s annual Grid Needs Assessment (GNA) and Distribution Deferral Opportunity Report (DDOR) publications
Intake project data as an output from distribution and subtransmission plans
Ensure quality and necessary documentation to select traditional wireprojects for potential DER deferral
Maintain and modify quantitative DER deferral project prioritization worksheets
Negotiate proposed modifications with SDG&E and PG&E representatives
Calculate Location Net Benefit Analysis (LNBA) for all projects included in the GNA/DDOR
Influence future regulatory requirements that impact GNA/DDOR activities
Represent SCE as Lead Presenter at external stakeholder forums such as CPUC sponsored workshops and Request for Offer (RFO) webinars
Author Advice Letters for SCE’s recommended DER deferral projects
Coordinate with SCE internal groups on procurement activities for wires projects selected for inclusion in DER procurement processes
Educate non-technical internal SCE stakeholders on ISP’s planning processes, capabilities and challenges
Qualifications
The essentials
Bachelor’s degree or higher in Engineering
Five (5) or more years of engineering experience
The preferred
Articulate technical topics in general terms to a non-technical audience
Electric system planning experience
Understanding of equipment installed on the electric system
Electric system operations experience
Experience with electric grid data, both recorded and real time
Coordinate and facilitate input across a diverse set of stakeholders
Drafting regulatory positions and technical reports
You should know …
Work Mode: When a return-to-office date has been determined, this position’s work mode is hybrid . The employee will report to an SCE facility for a set number of days with the option to work remotely on the remaining days. Unless otherwise noted, employees are required to reside in the state of California. Further details of this work mode will be discussed at the interview stage.
