About Transmission and Distribution
Southern California Edison’s (SCE's) Transmission and Distribution Organization (T&D) is responsible for planning, engineering, constructing, operating, and maintaining transmission and distribution facilities throughout the 50,000-square-mile territory. T&D is the steward of roughly $19 billion in assets that safely and reliably deliver electricity to 14 million residents via SCE’s 4.9 million customer accounts.
The selected Civil Engineer will assist in the performance of general civil/structural engineering analysis, design, detailing, and CAD supported drafting for Southern California Edison Facilities and Substations. This may include work in the following areas: site development, infrastructure replacement, drainage analysis, grading design, structural analysis, foundation and steel design, building design, and evaluation of existing facilities.
Typical responsibilities will include:
Interfacing with a wide range of individuals from client organizations, operations, maintenance, peer disciplines, and management in order to define work requirements and deliverables, carry out their activities, and provide periodic engineering reporting and status updates.
Gathering data, performing engineering analysis, & preparing reports, designs, drawings, and specifications.
Preparing civil and/or structural plans, reports, calculations, and cost estimates
Attend project meetings and coordination with the project team or other disciplines outside the organization.
Provide construction support as needed
Prepare presentations to SCE staff and/or outside organizations
Overseeing the preparations of engineering plans, documents, and reports.
Quality Assurance review of engineering plans, documents, and reports.
Travel throughout SCE’s service territory for work.
Providing support to field personnel and other internal and external customers as required.
Creating and maintaining a safety conscious work environment by leading and influencing others to follow Edison safety protocols and safe work practices.
Performing other duties and responsibilities as assigned
Must have a Bachelor’s Degree in Civil Engineering or related technical field.
Three or more years of experience in civil and/or structural engineering.
Must have Engineer-In-Training (EIT) Certificate
Must have experience using AutoCAD Civil 3D
CA Professional Engineer License in Civil Engineering
Master’s degree in Civil or Structural Engineering.
Demonstrated experience in a variety of Civil and/or Structural Engineering principles, including site development, document preparation of civil engineering development projects, structural analysis, drainage analysis, building codes, industry standards and regulations.
Demonstrated experience with civil or structural engineering for development and/or utility projects.
Demonstrated experience reviewing and understanding topographic land surveys and geotechnical reports.
Demonstrated experience creating and modifying engineering drawings using computer aided drafting.
Demonstrated experience facilitating the presentation of recommendations, effectively present technical information and guide discussions toward the attainment of mutually acceptable goals and outcomes.
Demonstrated experience using Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and AutoCAD or other computer-based design programs.
Must demonstrate the ability to interface effectively and collaborate with clients, peers, project personnel, and other stakeholders as required.
Must demonstrate strong ethics, influence and negotiation, leadership, interpersonal skills, communication, and the ability to effectively manage stress and engage in continuous learning.
Candidates for this position must be legally authorized to work directly as employees for any employer in the United States without visa sponsorship.
This position has been identified as a NERC/CIP impacted position - Prior to being hired, the successful candidate must pass a Personnel Risk Assessment (PRA) or Background Investigation. Once hired, the candidate must complete specified training prior to gaining un-escorted access to assigned work location and performing necessary job duties.
Relocation may be offered.
