Southern California Edison’s (SCE's) Transmission and Distribution Organizational Unit (T & D) is responsible for planning, engineering, constructing, operating, and maintaining transmission and distribution facilities throughout the 50,000-square-mile territory. T&D is the steward of roughly $19 billion in assets that safely and reliably deliver electricity to 14 million residents via SCE’s 5 million customer accounts.
The Automation Commissioning Manager will have the responsibility for managing the technical support to the Substation Construction & Maintenance (SC&M) organization, and will be responsible for providing direct supervision to Technical Specialists. The successful candidate will manage the development of commissioning procedures and the on-sight execution of multiple large-scale capital projects.
Managing the evaluation, development, and implementation of protective equipment and systems, and supporting T & D on capital projects and maintenance activities by managing the quality control and acceptance of all substation equipment.
Manage the development and continued adherence to workflow procedures and process documentation, and the commissioning and acceptance of SC&M capital projects related to substation equipment.
Oversee the collection, analysis and processing of data for managers using multiple databases, systems, spreadsheets, and other available tools for reporting and/or decisions that have a major impact on the organization.
Working in cross-functional teams the Automation / Commissioning Manager is the Automation / Relay Sub IR technical lead for SC&M.
Develops the technical expertise, field training and consultation services to support the maintenance and test organizations.
Creating and maintaining a safety conscious work environment by leading and influencing others to follow Edison safety protocols and safe work practices.
Some after hours and on call duty required; and performing other responsibilities and duties as assigned.
Five or more years’ combined experience performing and/or supervising the maintenance and testing of substation equipment, including switchgear, transformers, capacitors, relays, automation equipment and other substation equipment.
Valid Driver’s License
Experience commissioning substation equipment and/or start up engineering
Demonstrated experience prioritizing activities, delegating, monitoring assignments, and holding employees accountable for results.
Demonstrated experience interfacing effectively and collaborating with internal and external employees and all levels of management to develop solutions and ensure stakeholder buy-in.
Demonstrated experience working with procedures related to substation design, automation systems, construction, maintenance and operations.
Demonstrated experience performing technical investigations, inspections, studies and evaluations of electrical and mechanical systems and equipment.
Demonstrated experience with communication protocols such as Modbus, Modbus Plus, DNP 3.0, UCA II or 61850, Modbus TCP/IP Ethernet.
Demonstrated experience with substation testing hardware and software such as ASE test set, Protest, AutoCAD 2000, Doble DTA, Concept, LENs.
Demonstrated experience using Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Access.
Demonstrated knowledge of electrical and mechanical theory.
Must be willing and able to work extended hours, weekends and hours outside of the regular work schedule in support of field crews to meet system requirements involving projects and emergency demands.

Knowledge of protective relaying schemes used at SCE.
Hardware and communications experience with the following: Modicon Quantum and Momentum PLC’s, GE 90-70 PLC’s, ABB DPU and TPU IED’s, Schweitzer SEL relays and GE UR Series Relays.
Knowledge of IEEE/ANSI EHV substation apparatus specifications relating to design, application, commissioning, and maintenance.

This position has been identified as a NERC/CIP impacted position - Prior to being hired, the successful candidate must pass a Personnel Risk Assessment (PRA) or Background Investigation. Once hired, the candidate must complete specified training prior to gaining un-escorted access to assigned work location and performing necessary job duties.
