About Transmission and Distribution

Southern California Edison’s (SCE's) Transmission and Distribution Organizational Unit (T & D) is responsible for planning, engineering, constructing, operating, and maintaining transmission and distribution facilities throughout the 50,000-square-mile territory. T&D is the steward of roughly $19 billion in assets that safely and reliably deliver electricity to 14 million residents via SCE’s 5 million customer accounts.

Position Overview

The Advisor will be in the Grid Modernization group within Transmission & Distribution Organizational Unit (T&D). The Advisor will be responsible for coordinating development of a workforce and business process strategy to compliment the Grid Modernization investment roadmap. This position will focus on collaborating with T&D Training, Organizational Unit SMEs, and T&D leadership to compose a multi-year road map for resourcing, skillset development, and position evolution in support of Grid Modernization deployment activities. The Advisor will also coordinate budgets for training, deployment of training and development activities, as well as coordination with various HR departments.

Responsibilities may include:

  • Lead the development and documentation of process changes in support of the grid modernization investment plan. This will include negotiation with T&D leaders to identify and implement changes to current processes in support of the Grid Modernization strategy.

  • Support development of a comprehensive workforce strategy in support of the Grid Modernization investment plan.

  • Provide coordination across several T&D departments including T&D Training, System Planning, Engineering, Asset Management, Project Management, Operations, and T&D Construction organizations to evaluate impacts to engineering, system planning, and field operations organizations.

  • Coordinate decisions with input from Manager and Supervisor level personnel across T&D, IT, Power Supply, and Customer Service to result in modifications to current business processes.

  • Work closely with ESP organizations to outline and coordinate modifications to system planning processes.

  • Lead cost estimating and budgeting exercises to quantify resource and workforce development activities for inclusion in operating plans and rate case testimony.

  • Make decisions related to implementation and execution of Grid Modernization workforce strategy which will ultimately impact long-term capital plans and processes related to project lifecycle.

  • Creates and maintains a safety conscious work environment.


Minimum Qualifications

  • Seven or more years of experience supporting organizational programs, contract management, or program management.

  • Three or more years of combined experience working with 3 or more of the following Work streams (RFI Remote Fault Indicator, ASR-RSR Remote Sectionalizing Recloser, RSI Remote Intelligent Switch, DVVC-Distribution Voltage Var Control, OMS Outage Management System, FAN Field Area Network or Netcom)

Desired Qualifications

  • Bachelor Degree in Engineering, Business, or technical discipline or an equivalent combination of education, training, and experience.

  • 3+ years’ experience directing work activities across multiple organizations, outlining actions in support of objectives, and evaluating progress against established schedules.

  • Identifying resource needs, outlining skillset changes, and developing road maps.

  • Leading cost estimating and budgeting exercises to quantify resource and workforce development.

  • Negotiating with leaders to identify and implement changes to current processes.

  • Working with training to design training programs and advanced modes for training material (e.g. online videos).

  • Ability to integrate work across relevant areas, develop the business and services to enhance customer satisfaction and productivity, manage risks appropriately, develop and execute business plans, manage information, and provide exceptional service to internal and external customers.

  • Demonstrate effective resource and project planning, decision making, results delivery, team building, and the ability to stay current with relevant technology and innovation.

  • 3+ years’ experience working across T&D departments and OUs preferred.


  • Candidates for this position must be legally authorized to work directly as employees for any employer in the United States without visa sponsorship.

  • Position will require 40% traveling and being out in the field throughout the SCE service territory.
