Job Summary

As the Lead Power Distribution Designer , you will be responsible for leading and overseeing the design and implementation of power distribution systems as well as assist in training, coaching, and developing a team of designers and junior engineers. Project types will include design of aerial and underground electric network distribution lines. Position will work under the supervision of a Project Manager and report up to Area Manager. Selected candidate must be comfortable working a Hybrid schedule (2-3 days in office).

Responsibilities

  • Lead the design and development of power distribution systems, ensuring efficiency, reliability, and optimal performance.

  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to gather requirements and develop design solutions that meet project objectives.

  • Provide technical guidance and mentorship to junior designers and team members.

  • Apply design standards to underground and aerial pole line cable plant, including: Joint Use Design, Pole Replacement, Primary Service, and Reliability/Maintenance Design.

  • Review preliminary and final design drawings using computer aided drafting systems including review of bill of materials, cost estimates, and traffic control plans required to support construction.

  • Produce and review detailed design documentation including utility design system, line layout/routing, overhead and underground distribution, and identification of conflicting utilities.

  • Perform and review field surveys and prepare accurate field sketches; record verifications, prepare documentation and work order construction prints.

  • Field check design layouts and provide technical support for construction, including participation in construction planning, execution, quality control, and completion of the work.

  • Coordinate and attend design reviews of distribution projects for a utility customers.

  • Responsible for ongoing communication and timely identification of issues to the PM and pending or actual changes to the work performed that may impact costs, schedule, contract or customer relationship.

  • Contributes to and implements design modifications to improve quality of projects and process improvements.

  • Interface with vendors and on-site construction crews as required ensuring quality of construction, adherence to overall project schedule, and tracking of productivity goals.

Qualifications

Minimum

  • Bachelor's degree or equivalent related experience with the design of electrical distribution systems.

  • Minimum 5 years of experience designing power distribution systems.

  • Extensive knowledge of power distribution equipment and components.

  • Proficiency in using computer-aided design (CAD) software for system design and modeling.

  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills to identify and troubleshoot issues.

  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills to collaborate effectively with internal teams and external stakeholders.

  • Ability to work effectively under pressure and meet tight deadlines.

Preferred

  • Regional travel required, as needed for the job.

  • Ability to produce detailed and accurate structural modification drawings.
