Job Summary:

As a Land Survey Crew Chief, you will be responsible for managing a survey crew and conducting field surveys to gather precise measurements and data. You will utilize advanced surveying equipment, including total stations, GPS receivers, and data collectors, to perform boundary surveys, topographic surveys, construction staking, and other surveying tasks. Your expertise, leadership, and attention to detail will be crucial in delivering accurate survey data and ensuring the successful completion of land survey projects.

Key Responsibilities:

Crew Management:

  • Lead a survey crew and assign tasks to ensure efficient workflow and productivity.

  • Provide guidance and training to crew members, including survey technicians and field assistants.

  • Foster a positive and collaborative team environment, promoting safety and professionalism.

Field Surveying:

  • Conduct field surveys using advanced surveying equipment and techniques.

  • Perform boundary surveys, topographic surveys, construction staking, and other survey-related tasks as required.

  • Ensure accuracy and precision in all survey measurements and data collection.

Equipment and Instrumentation:

  • Set up, calibrate, and operate surveying instruments such as total stations, GPS receivers, and levels.

  • Maintain and troubleshoot surveying equipment, ensuring proper functioning and accuracy.

  • Monitor inventory levels and coordinate with management for equipment maintenance and procurement.

Data Collection and Documentation:

  • Collect and record accurate survey data using electronic data collectors and field notebooks.

  • Organize and manage survey data, ensuring proper documentation and adherence to project specifications.

  • Perform quality control checks on collected data and identify any discrepancies or errors.

Project Coordination and Communication:

  • Collaborate with project managers, engineers, and clients to understand project requirements and objectives.

  • Communicate project progress, challenges, and findings to stakeholders in a clear and concise manner.

  • Coordinate with other survey crews and departments to ensure seamless project execution.

Safety and Compliance:

  • Maintain a safe working environment, adhering to company safety policies and industry best practices.

  • Identify potential hazards and implement appropriate safety measures during field survey operations.

  • Ensure compliance with relevant surveying regulations, standards, and codes.

Qualifications and Requirements:

  • High school diploma or equivalent; additional technical or vocational training in surveying is preferred.

  • Survey license preferred

  • Proven experience as a Land Survey Crew Chief or a similar role.

  • Proficiency in using surveying equipment such as total stations, GPS receivers, and data collectors.

  • Strong knowledge of land surveying principles, techniques, and survey computations.

  • Familiarity with surveying software and computer-aided drafting (CAD) tools is desirable.

  • Ability to read and interpret engineering plans, maps, and legal descriptions.

  • Excellent organizational and time management skills, with the ability to prioritize and multitask.

  • Effective communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to collaborate with team members and stakeholders.

  • Valid driver's license and the ability to travel to various project sites as required.
