Overall Purpose:

Safety & Environmental intern sought for full-time, 12 week (40 hours/week) position for the Summer 2022 program. Will support Workforce Development, Safety, Health and Environmental Departments.


  • Partner with the Property Services Department in the collection of solar data for the DLC Sustainability Program

  • Assist in the development of a waste minimization/recycling program

  • Assist in the planning for the annual DLC River and Trail Cleanup volunteer event

  • Assist with legacy site inspections

  • Assist with safety and environmental audits at DLC service centers

  • Assist with IH (Industrial Hygiene) Program requirements

  • Develop training materials and PDSM documents

  • Participate on current Kaizen Teams

  • Perform field visits to conduct safety observations

  • Assist on implementation of a safety management system

  • Assist on companywide stretching program development and implementation

  • Create safety alerts/bulletins as needed following incident review meetings

  • Assist in incident investigations and participate in incident review meetings

  • Assist on corrective action follow up/closure

  • Participate on Safety Culture Workgroup


Applicants must be currently enrolled in an Environnmental, Health & Safety program. Must have completed at least the Sophomore year of studies.

Possess valid PA Driver’s License.


Strong analytical and problem-solving skills. Excellent written and verbal communication skills. Proficiency with Microsoft Office products. Ability to work independently as well as in a team-oriented environment. Ability to manage constantly changing priorities. Ability to work in a fast paced environment.

Physical Requirements:

Work will be conducted in a hybrid environment with some time working remotely, and some time required to be in-office/on-site. Candidates must be within close proximity to Pittsburgh. Ability to participate in field visits to work in locations may include walking in wooded areas or visiting field locations.
