The Risk Analysis & Controls Analyst monitors daily commodity transaction activity and provides daily alerts for delegation of authority violations or control issues. The incumbent reviews and reconciles the daily prices used for mark to market valuation and produces daily commodity and credit risk reports. The incumbent reconciles any differences in commodity transaction bookings, prices or other issues with the front office and the back office; and supports the development management presentations, report design and automation, and documentation of risk controls, policies and procedures.
Responsibilities:
Ensure all commodity transaction activity and exposures are accurate and complete in the ETRM system of record
Assure transactions comply with delegation of authority and risk limits
Resolve any transaction and price data issues within the ETRM system of record
Ensure accurate mark to market valuations of commodity transactions
Support documentation, walkthroughs and data gathering requests for risk control, internal and external audits
Participate in requirements definition and testing of ETRM systems for managing the commodity lifecycle, including complete and accurate capture and processing of new strategies and instruments
Learn the commodity lifecycle processes and procedures from trade booking to settlement and controls across front, middle and back office
Monitor adherence to middle office controls and ETRM software daily process
Review timely and accurate recording of transactions in ETRM system, validate adherence to transaction controls and escalate any alerts and issues
Perform transaction validation of risk attributes and composite pricing
Manually import market prices (as needed) and validate market prices automatically interfaced from market data sources
Review and consolidate independent mark to market valuations of commodity transactions and instruments, research anomalies in valuation
Liaise with front office to reconcile differences in valuation, missing trades, etc.
Develop reports on commodity transaction activity, portfolio and credit exposure
Support Risk Management across the risk organization, including ERM and Risk Analytics
Develop risk and financial reports, management dashboards, presentations and visualizations to communicate risk exposures, risk attributions and change rationalization
Deep experience using and developing various reporting tools and software
Liaison with front office to review of transaction bookings and compliance with delegation of authority
Liaison with back office to support commodity transaction confirmation, settlements, pricing or other related issues
Communicate and support reconciliation of credit exposure, margin calls and collateral requirements
Identify issues in commodity transaction booking and breaches to controls
Maintain segregation between business units for all risk analysis and reporting
Scope of work is at an enterprise level across front, middle and back office
Strong communication and interpersonal skills to liaison with front and back office for managing commodity transaction controls
Develop understanding of ETRM systems and how they support the transaction lifecycle

Education / Experience:
Master’s and/or bachelor’s degree in Finance, Business, or related field
2+ years of related experience in ETRM systems/supporting technologies for commodity transaction management
Experience with Allegro ETRM system preferred
Knowledge of gas, coal and power transactions and MISO power market preferred
Working knowledge of VBA, SQL, Python, R & Business Intelligence Software a plus
Strong knowledge of MS Excel, preferably with VBA or C++ programming
Experience with Energy Trading and Risk Management (ETRM) systems in the Power and Utilities sector
Ability to manage high workloads and conflicting priorities
Strong verbal and written communication skills
Ability to exercise sound judgment with little direction/guidance but know when to escalate issues
Ability to learn new concepts
