Job Summary
The Meter Technician I is an entry level technician with some knowledge and experience in own discipline. Responsible for all types of Cleco meter installations and the knowledge required to design, install, program, and troubleshoot these installations with guidance and some oversight. These meters include those in transmission, generation and distribution facilities, along with large industrial, commercial, transmission tie points, co-generation, and net metering installations. Responsible for the testing and troubleshooting of AMI meter installations with basic knowledge of specific protocols (DNP, MODBUS) for SCADA interface. Builds knowledge of the Metering processes and customers.
Key Responsibilities
With guidance and some oversight, installs, calibrates and maintains meters in generation, transmission and distribution facilities, along with large industrial/commercial customer, transmission tie points, co-generation sights, seasonal and net metering sights. Maintains KYZ signals for customers.
Responsible for the testing and troubleshooting of AMI meter installations with basic knowledge of specific protocols (DNP, MODBUS) for SCADA interface. Adheres to test schedule and downloads results from test kits to mainframe database for record.
Responds to requests from Distribution Engineering, EMS Operators, Customer Billing, Marketing, AMI Department and Distribution Operations Managers to address meter-related questions or issues
Performs comparison tests upon request at metering sites. Assures accurate results are kept for record. Installs power quality meters at customers site upon request. Collects load research and power quality data with laptop computers or remote communication upon request. Provides results to appropriate personnel.
Investigates reported lost revenue due to tampering or equipment failure. Reports findings in a timely manner to Customer Billing and corrects any installation with unsafe or improper metering.
Completes specialized or moderately complex processes or activities, requiring some interpretation of practices, and an understanding of policies and programs
Works through diversified procedures and specialized standards and precedents covering many situations
Supports peers in response to trouble calls in Generation, Transmission and Distribution substations.
Decision-making involves the use of judgment and there is some emphasis on the development of new/improved procedures and on the translation of policy into operational plans.
Regularly applies general problem-solving techniques for meter-related issues.
Qualifications
Secondary/High School Diploma
2-year Technical Degree Preferred
1+ years of related experience
Strong business acumen pertaining to the Utility industry
Knowledge of Metering-related leading practices
Planning and project management skills
Willingness and ability to learn new technologies on the job
Proficient at functioning effectively within a team environment, present ideas and opinions in a respective and collegial manner
