Summary

The Supervisor, Meter Tech & Operations will oversee, guide, and direct field Polyphase metering, installation, maintenance and testing; power plant and substation meter monitoring and testing; annual programmatic regulatory meter test planning and implementation; metering technical experts; and metering backhaul operations. Ensure effective operations with emphasis on safety, customer service, regulatory compliance, and cost management. Interface with internal and external customers to ensure the integrity of metering systems as well as effective resolution of issues.

Minimum Requirements

  • High school diploma/GED and five (5) years working experience in metering and meter theory or an equivalent combination of education and demonstrated technical experience in engineering, construction, or related area.

  • Must possess a high level of competence in leadership, analytical, decision making and planning/organization skills.

  • Working knowledge of construction standards and methods, electric service requirements, union labor agreement, and accident prevention manual is preferred.

  • Requires demonstrated oral and written communication skills and interpersonal skills. Must possess valid AZ driver's license and be proficient in Windows computer applications.

  • Position may require out of town travel.

  • Requires after hours and weekend duty assignments.

Major Accountabilities

1) Responsible for directing and overseeing the work of polyphase journeymen, meter specialists, utility workers, metering technical specialists, and support technicians.

2) Oversee, guide, and direct the design, installation, maintenance, and testing of single phase and polyphase electric meters to ensure performance in the registration of energy consumption supporting Customer Care & Billing and Distribution Operations system data.

3) Lead metering technical specialists performing meter calibration, radio frequency communication testing and troubleshooting, firmware and software upgrades, industry metering standards adherence, implementation and adherence of NERC and CIP asset testing requirements and procedures.

4) Ensure compliance with regulatory inquiries and reporting requirements. Manage the annual programmatic regulatory meter testing process including planning, execution, and required regulatory reporting.

5) Lead power plant and substation metering installation, calibration and related testing.

6) Apprenticeship responsibilities including design and execution of technical training and apprentice program committee leadership.

7) Manage operational costs and keep within budget constraints by scheduling resources to maximize productive man-hours.

8) Resolve personnel problems by encouraging open lines of communication and interpreting company policies and Labor Agreements.

9) Ensure customer meter related outages are held to a minimum by possessing a thorough knowledge of all meter facilities.

10) Promote safety awareness and accidents by conducting safety meetings and supporting safe work practices and procedures.

Flex Role:

This position is not required to be performed at a specific APS facility as long as adequate technology and a solid ergonomic set up are present. Pending agreement with leadership, employees hired into this role will be able to choose where they prefer to perform their work. Employees will have two options to choose from:

  • APS office based: The employee prefers to work most of the time from an APS facility.

  • Home based: The employee prefers to work most of the time from his/her home.

    *Employees in Flex roles are required to reside in Arizona (or NM for Four Corners-based employees). Role types are subject to change based on business need.
