Summary

The Supervisor IT Real-Time Transmission Operations Support leads team that supports, inspects, and verifies acceptance of the Energy Management System. Provide leadership and work direction in managing the end-to-end master data processes and flows and supports design of systems and tools to organize, store, retrieve, and analyze data. Assign, review and inspect work in progress and completed by assigned personnel. Maintain and report on metrics, including Continuous Improvement initiatives. Implement training programs for new hires. Develops and maintain department knowledge base.

Minimum Requirements

  • A four year Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Business or other job related field from an accredited college or university plus eight (8) years progressively responsible directly related experience in area/s of assignment is required to obtain an advanced understanding of information and/or communication systems, operating systems, network communications, equipment and infrastructure.

  • In lieu of Bachelor's degree, a combination of education and experience equaling 12 years is required.

  • Demonstrated leadership skills required.

    PREFERRED SPECIAL SKILLS, KNOWLEDGE OR QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Considerable knowledge of electric power production business.

  • Working knowledge of Supervisory Control and Data Acquisition (SCADA) Energy Management System (EMS).

  • Working knowledge of SCADA, AGC; or equivalent combination of education, training and experience are encouraged to apply.

  • Familiarity with Regulatory agencies including Federal Energy Regulatory Commission (FERC) and North America Electric Reliability Corporation (NERC).

  • Skilled in management of employees and contracted staff, with ability to effectively direct and manage the work of others and ensure the efficient coordination of project work

    Preferred Special Skills, Knowledge or Qualifications:

    Demonstrated high quality oral, written and presentation communication skills; interpersonal and people management skills; and demonstrated experience in project management.

    Experience in the development, integration, and support of information and communication systems applications, distributed and mainframe environments, network architecture and sub-systems, distributed and mainframe server architectures cross platform interfaces.

    Experience with Siemens Spectrum 3.9 EMS system. 5+ years of EMS/Transmission Operations experience.

    CIP program Expertise.

    Understanding of Network Model. Operator Training Simulator familiarity.

    Real Time Contingency Analysis expertise.

    Familiarity of FERC, NERC, and WECC regulations and Standards.

Major Accountabilities

1) Leads the day-to-day activities of a team in the delivery and maintenance of the Energy Management System.

Ensures preferred technical architecture and business requirements are balanced to provide effective information and communication systems solutions, sound architecture, and cross-system integration objectives.

2) Leads the team in the resolution of technical issues by identifying, recommending, and implementing appropriate solutions.

3) Leads team to support integration of new and existing information and communication systems through overall systems architecture. Balances preferred technical architecture and business requirements to provide effective solutions and ensuring customer support.

4) Manages work group costs within approved budget. Continually works to improve department work processes.

5) Supports unit level strategic plans that align with corporate and Information Technology plans. Supports client planning process and prioritization for systems technology implementation. Assigns, directs, facilitates, reviews and approves unit work activities to ensure effectiveness and productivity of the work unit. Maintains knowledge and understanding of business processes. Leads work activities to meet client expectations.

6) Develops and retains a highly skilled technical team by implementing performance management program and ensuring staff has the technical and business skills to support the objectives of the organization. Develops team and guides their efforts to continually improve the delivery of system solutions. Provides feedback, coaching and training and development opportunities to create a high performing team.

Flex Role:

This position is not required to be performed at a specific APS facility as long as adequate technology and a solid ergonomic set up are present. Pending agreement with leadership, employees hired into this role will be able to choose where they prefer to perform their work, but the ultimate decision is the company's. Employees will have two options to choose from:

  • APS office based: The employee prefers to work most of the time from an APS facility.

  • Home based: The employee prefers to work most of the time from his/her home.

*Employees in Flex roles are required to reside in Arizona (or NM for Four Corners-based employees). Role types are subject to change based on business need.

CIP Requirement:

This position requires Critical Infrastructure Protection (CIP) access consistent with North American Electric Reliability Corporation (NERC) standards. The applicant considered for this role will be required to obtain and maintain CIP access for the duration of employment in this position. A full seven (7) year criminal history will be obtained through the pre-employment background check process (or, for current employees, through supplemental background check process) to fulfill the CIP access requirements. In addition, this position requires an additional background check every seven years to maintain access.
