Summary

Transmission and Distribution Operations has an opportunity for a Construction and Maintenance Supervisor in the Protection & Controls (P&C) Construction Department. The Supervisor will provide leadership, coordination,and direction of field crew personnel for Protective Relay & Control Construction organization of Protection and Controls Technicians, Journeyman and Planners. Supervisor will oversee the coordination activities of P&CTechs and journeyman in the Construction and operation of T&D substation electrical facilities in order to providefor system reliability requirements. This includes oversight of project schedules, outage schedules, and materialcoordination and engineering collaboration to meet project timelines, including outage restoration, and equipmentcommissioning services for substation Protective relay schemes. Position will require periodic after-hoursresponsibility for developing an organization that is focused on providing quality, timely, courteous, and cost-effective construction, cost-effective, safe, and reliable system additions, improvements, and upgrades. Supervisor serves as a communication, coordinating, scheduling and technical liaison among other stakeholderswithin the company, leaders and departments, as appropriate.

Minimum Requirements

  • Bachelors' degree in construction management, engineering, business, or a related field plus three (3) years' experience in the design, engineering, construction, operations, and/or maintenance of transmission and distribution electrical facilities, power plants or related energy or construction industries.

  • In lieu of Bachelor's degree, an equivalent combination of seven (7) years education and working experience in design, engineering, construction, operations, and/or maintenance of transmission and distribution electrical facilities, power plants or related energy or construction industries.

  • Must live within the assigned geographic area with the ability to commute to work sites of service area and ability/availability to oversee emergent work during nights and weekends.

    Preferred Special Skill, Knowledge, or Qualifications: Demonstrated leadership qualities and effective interpersonal skills. Broad and in-depth knowledge of utility operations, construction, safety standards, IBEW contract and local/state/federal regulations. Excellent project management, business planning, and negotiating skills.

Major Accountabilities

1) Coordinate line crews and servicemen to ensure that fully staffed crews are always available. Provide timely completion of construction through effective time management, cooperation with internal and external customers, and maintenance of adequate resources.

2) Ensure minimal customer outage through implementation of proper operating and restoration procedures.

3) Control construction costs to within budget by scheduling resources to maximize productivity without sacrificing customer service.

4) Resolve differences by encouraging and practicing open communication and accurate interpretation of company policies and labor agreements.

5) Maintain effective vehicle and equipment fleets and ensure systematic and efficient maintenance programs.

6) Promote safety awareness and accident reductions through safety meetings, tailboard sessions, and implementation of safe work procedures/practices.

7) Support emergent restoration efforts and after hour duty responsibilities and union crews as needed.

8) May participate on local community boards, join in local council meetings, and lead or participate in community seasonal events.

CIP Requirement:

This position requires Critical Infrastructure Protection (CIP) access consistent with North American Electric Reliability Corporation (NERC) standards. The applicant considered for this role will be required to obtain and maintain CIP access for the duration of employment in this position. A full seven (7) year criminal history will be obtained through the pre-employment background check process (or, for current employees, through supplemental background check process) to fulfill the CIP access requirements. In addition, this position requires an additional background check every seven years to maintain access.

Onsite: Requires work to be performed in the field and/or at an APS facility. Depending on the responsibilities of the role, this may include, but is not limited to, working at a power plant, job site, or in the community.
