Summary

Our Deer Valley Garage has an opportunity to grow your career as a Pre-Apprentice Auto Mechanic. As a Pre-Apprentice Auto Mechanic, you will be responsible for performing preventative maintenance, inspections, and regular maintenance on light duty vehicles. Upon successful completion of UTI Training Classes (ATD 112 & ATD 127) you will complete inspections on DOT vehicles and equipment and signed off by a Journeyman. The Pre-Apprentice Auto Mechanic will assist Journeyman with repairs and 90 day inspections on all our equipment.

Additional duties include but not limited to:

  • Tire Service

  • Emergency Jump Starts

  • Changing batteries, light bulbs and lenses

  • Preparing new vehicles (NVGR)

  • Parts pick-up / vehicle shuttling

  • Shop clean-up

  • Field work

    The primary work hours for this position are Monday- Friday 1:00pm - 9:00pm (AZ/MST).

    + During Training and Schooling, work hours may change to 05:30am - 2:00pm (AZ/MT) and Alternate shifts.

    In order to be considered, you must meet or exceed the following qualifications:

  • Must be eighteen (18) years or older.

  • Must possess a High School diploma or G.E.D. prior to the application closing.

  • Must have at least a Manual Transmission Commercial Drivers License (CDL) "Class A" permit at the time of application.

    + If the successful applicant has a CDL Permit, they must obtain a valid "Class A" Commercial Driver's License for manual transmission with no mechanical restrictions (i.e. airbrakes) within forty-five (45) days of their official start date.
  • Must be enrolled or completed (Grade "C" or above) course work within the automotive curriculum from an accredited college, vocational technical school, vehicle manufacturer training,

    -OR-

  • One (1) year suitable work experience in an Automotive/ Truck Repair Facility (must send documentation).

  • Must live within reasonable distance (one (1) hour) from primary duty location.

  • Successfully pass the Edison Electrical Institute (EEi) CAST Aptitude Test.

    + Selected candidates that have not already completed the CAST test or are eligible to retest will be invited to take the CAST test
  • This position requires working with aerial equipment, which has weight restrictions of 300 lbs or less.

  • The established headquarters for this position is subject to relocation to the HUBwest Service Center a facility that will be located 38 miles west of downtown Phoenix, on a date to be determined by the Company.

    Selected candidates that meet the minimum qualifications will be subject to the following requirements:

  • Must meet the requirements of the essential job functions assessment prior to participating in any physical field evaluation.

  • Must successfully pass the CAST test.

  • Must successfully pass a physical (hands-on) field evaluation.

  • Must successfully pass an oral interview.

A written [paper and pencil] test will be administered.

A test using a computer with keyboard will be administered.

A hands-on skills test will be administered.

Eligibility:

Must live or relocate within reasonable distance to the headquarters. Reasonable distance is defined as one (1) hour for Metro and State Region locations. Reasonable distance for Troublemen, Local Representatives, and Substation Technicians is defined as thirty (30) minutes for Metro locations and forty-five (45) minutes for State Region locations.

+ + For jobs in departments (System, Reliability, Hotstick) that require the majority of the work be performed out-of-town and as such, employees/crews are not required to report to the established headquarters unless directed by Leadership; the reasonable distance requirement will be waived.*.
