Job Description

The Low Voltage Foreman will coordinate & supervise the installation of low voltage security and fire alarm systems.

Sturgeon Electric’s Commercial & Industrial (C&I) electrical construction division specializes in large-scale electrical projects, telecommunications, traffic signalization, gas distribution, high voltage distribution service and maintenance to clients. Sturgeon Electric also offers design-build and pre-construction services and has in-house pre-fabrication and Building Information Modeling (BIM) capabilities.

Essential Functions:

  • Perform all tasks required for installation of a complete structured cabling system in a new or existing construction environment. Including but not limited to:

  • CAT 5e, 6, 6a and fiber optic horizontal cabling

  • Copper/fiber optic distribution backbone cabling

  • Knowledge of multiply low voltage systems

  • Equipment rack/cabinet IDF buildouts

  • Cross-connect blocks

  • Read and understand special system blueprints and industry symbols.

  • Design and implement cable pathway

  • Manage up to 15 technicians

  • Test and troubleshoot continuity of fiber optic networks

  • Operate all testing equipment and be adept at resolution of challenges common to fiber optic networks

  • Prepping fiber splice enclosures such as Tyco, Commscope, Corning etc.

  • Utilize fusion splicer, test equipment OTDR (Optical Time-Domain Reflectometer) 1310, 1550, DWDM, CWDM, 945 OLTS, Max Tester, Power meter

  • Fiber engineer knowledge of fiber design, reading documentation, understanding of light levels and dB loss

  • Be familiar with network equipment and circuitry, Fiber Optic and Ethernet cabling.

Job Requirements

Qualifications:

  • Current BICSI Technician Certificate or proven work experience

  • Certificates in a minimum of five (5) industry specified manufacturers' training courses

  • Possess basic computer skills and the ability to work in MS Office programs.

  • Strong Communication skills

  • Strong organizational skills to track labor time, safety logs, etc.

  • You have a knack for figuring out hard problems and enjoy a hands-on approach to your work

  • You have a track record of completing work with a high level of quality

  • Fiber engineer knowledge of fiber design, reading documentation, understanding of light levels and dB loss

Compensation & Benefits:

  • This will be a union position. Wage is dependent on experience and certifications -$24.09 to $30.25/hour plus benefits.
