Summary
The Senior Designer provides design and design leadership for new installations and changes to existing plant facilities, transmission and distribution systems, substations, customer projects and/or unique, complex systems. Collaborates with engineers, project management and others in development and preparation of project design/drawings. Provides engineering recommendations, design guidance/review and technical support to APS crews/staff and contractors/consultants for modifications and repairs. Provides technical input and identifies potential risks to support and develop manpower estimates, project schedules, construction packages, costs and status reports. Provides project design oversight on all Engineering documentation as it relates to established design standards and procedures.
Minimum Requirements
High School Diploma/GED plus two (2) years college or technical school coursework in Computer Aided Design and Drafting (CADD) or a technical discipline (or equivalent) plus eight (8) years designer, drafting, CAD experience in area of specialization. Some work areas may require a valid driver's license.
Preferred Special Skills, Knowledge or Qualifications:
Experience performing Computer Aided Design (CAD) work at a subject matter expert level of proficiency.
Extensive experience interacting with internal APS departments, external service providers and external stakeholders/customers as needed to support projects.
Thorough understanding of all aspects of design and project management process.
Effective interpersonal and written and verbal communication skills.
Proficiency using Word, Excel and PowerPoint applications (or similar computer applications).
Nuclear requirement:
Any PVNGS employee may be called upon to serve as a member of the Emergency Response Organization (ERO) and will be expected to fulfill their obligation as an ERO member.
Any PVNGS employee may be called upon to support a refueling or short-notice outage.
This includes line roles and responsibilities as necessary to execute outage activities. These are conditions of employment at PVNGS.
Major Accountabilities
1) Develops design layouts, schematics, equipment arrangements, sections, details, specifications, dimensional requirements, etc., for complete installation drawings.
Performs detailed design reviews and project construction inspections to ensure design/code compliance and functionality.
2) Collaborates with Engineers in the development of construction packages, plant design changes, or multiple complex job packages that are within cost and schedule.
3) Creates or revises necessary drawings for a plant, system, substation or customer project utilizing preliminary design information.
4) Reviews design work and provides technical direction and training to less experienced designers ensuring conformance to procedures, government regulations and selected codes and standards to improve effectiveness of the design unit.
5) Updates all drawings to reflect as-built changes to ensure continued drawing accuracy.
6) Updates standardized plant, system, substation and master drawings and templates as needed.
7) Performs studies, field investigations, technical code review and required calculations to produce design drawings and alternatives.
8) Researches design drawings, technical data, and consults with other disciplines/vendors to obtain/verify information for design drawing development.
9) Provides direction and assistance to others on the correct use of system tools and applications as a subject matter expert.
