Summary

Prepare/assist in the developing of design drawings, design change notices, bill of materials and other documents required for facility/plant modification, equipment and other projects.

Minimum Requirements

High School diploma/GED.

Must have completed two years college or technical school course work in Computer Aided Design and Drafting (CADD) or a technical discipline or equivalent. Specific Business Units may require one (1) year design experience in area of specialization. Demonstrated oral and written communications and interpersonal skill, as well as PC skills in a Windows environment.

Some work areas may require a valid driver's license.

Nuclear requirement: Any PVNGS employee may be called upon to serve as a member of the Emergency Response Organization (ERO) and will be expected to fulfill their obligation as an ERO member. This is a condition of employment at PVNGS. Roles and Responsibilities defined in Policy 1503 and implementing policy guide are applicable to all PVNGS employees.

Any PVNGS employee may be called upon to support a refueling or short-notice outage. This includes line roles and responsibilities as necessary to execute outage activities.

This position may require access to and/or use of information subject to control under the Department of Energy's Part 810 Regulations (10 CFR Part 810), the Export Administration Regulations (EAR) (15 CFR Parts 730 through 774), or the International Traffic in Arms Regulations (ITAR) (22 CFR Chapter I, Subchapter M Part 120 ) (collectively, U.S. Export Control Laws).

Therefore, this position requires applicants to be a U.S. person, which is defined as a U.S. Citizen, a U.S. Lawful Permanent Resident (i.e. 'Green Card Holder'), a Political Asylee, or a Refugee under the U.S. Export Control Laws. All applicants for this position will be required to confirm their U.S. person status.

Major Accountabilities

1) Prepares or revises selected drawing (electrical/mechanical/civil/instrument) and other documentation subject to review by higher level Designers or Team Lead required for the installation, modification, and operation of all types of electrical/electronic facilities or equipment.

Documentation may include: structural/physical layouts and details, block and signal diagrams, wiring and schematic diagrams, Bills of Materials, Requisitions on ROS and Shop Orders using manual or CADD techniques and related software.

2) Gathers, organizes and develops Engineering data; perform field investigations to determine as built conditions and design requirements; performs studies and required computations for the development of design drawings with direction from higher level Designers or Team Lead.

3) Provides lead personnel with field prints, check prints and working copies of documents to expedite generation of final engineering drawings; assists in development of site-specific wiring diagrams and equipment layouts based on generalized standards and instructions.

4) Insures conformance to procedures, government regulations and selected codes and standards in the performance of related tasks.

5) Compiles all required documentation for assigned projects into a complete package, submits the package for review and approval and expedites transmittal of documentation to the appropriate field units and files with direction from higher level Designers or Team Lead.

6) Maintains and updates all Design Configuration Documents through the use of CADD and manual drafting techniques.

7) Develops an understanding and an ability to utilize all applicable systems and applications. Learns to apply appropriate skills to resolve issues and apply critical thinking in resolving problems. Learns to work effectively in team settings.

Flex Role:

This position is not required to be performed at a specific APS facility as long as adequate technology and a solid ergonomic set up are present. Pending agreement with leadership, employees hired into this role will be able to choose where they prefer to perform their work, but the ultimate decision is the company's. Employees will have two options to choose from:

  • APS office based: The employee prefers to work most of the time from an APS facility.

  • Home based: The employee prefers to work most of the time from his/her home.

*Employees in Flex roles are required to reside in Arizona (or NM for Four Corners-based employees). Role types are subject to change based on business need.
