PPL Corporation Senior Emergency Planner in Pennsylvania

Senior Emergency Planner

Primary Responsibilities:

  1. Develops, updates, and maintains training aids, job aids, checklists, roles and responsibilities documents, and other related reference documentation for the EU Emergency Response Organization (ERO) roles as they relate to the management of both weather-related and non-weather-related events.

  2. Develops and executes change management plans for modifications in process, roles, systems, and tools, including drill exercise programs (orientation, tabletop exercises, functional exercises, etc.).

  3. Maintains the EU Emergency Response SharePoint web site for use by all involved with emergency management. Ensures that the site is user friendly, useful, and properly maintained.

  4. Monitors and maintains the various software systems and applications used in the emergency response process (i.e.: outage prediction model, resource management database, smart device apps, etc.)

  5. Maintains document control for all emergency response documents by monitoring the version control process.

  6. Supports the Manager - Emergency Preparedness in the performance of the position duties.

  7. Facilitates Event Critiques and ensures action items are assigned and monitored for completion.

  8. Continuously improves emergency response processes within PPL EU through benchmarking and review of industry best practices.

  9. Primarily works independently, with guidance on only the most complex tasks.

  10. Solves complex problems; takes a broad perspective to identify innovative solutions and makes use of knowledge of industry best practices related to emergency planning.

  11. All positions in which driving is an essential function of the job, regardless if the job code is marked safety sensitive or not, will also be included as safety sensitive.

  12. May be assigned an Electric Utilities emergency and storm role. This is a special assignment that comes into play during storms and other emergencies when the company needs to restore power or respond to other issues affecting customer service. This role may necessitate the need to work after-hours, outside of your normal schedule.

  13. The company reserves the right to determine if this position will be assigned to work on-site, remotely, or a combination of both. Assigned work location may change. In the case of remote work, physical presence in the office/on-site may be required to engage in face-to-face interaction and coordination of work among direct reports and co-workers.

Position Summary:

Provides strategy for ensuring that emergency response processes are adequately instituted throughout the PPL Electric Utilities organization. Ensures that training material is developed and delivered to emergency responders. Develops and maintains the Storm Management SharePoint website including versioning control of all storm Manual documents to ensure that all storm related documents are reviewed and updated in a timely manner. Performs a variety of complex activities in support of EU's emergency management and preparedness functions with minimal supervision. The incumbent works as an individual contributor with substantial latitude for unreviewed action or decisions and may lead functional teams or projects. Individuals in this position also provide technical guidance and direction to other PPL employees in support of producing high quality, timely and cost-effective solutions to ensure PPL Electric Utilities' emergency preparedness.

Basic Qualifications:

  1. 10 years of experience in Emergency Planning activities and OR more than 5 years of experience in Emergency Planning activities with a bachelor’s degree.

Preferred Qualifications:

  1. Experience in All-Hazards response.

  2. Knowledgeable in aspects of storm management.

  3. Certified Emergency Manager (CEM) or Associate Emergency Manager (AEM) certification.

  4. Project Management Certification.

  5. Working knowledge of MS Office applications.

  6. Experience in training a wide variety of users in the efficient management of storm restoration work.

  7. Strong verbal and written communication skills.

  8. Ability to work well with individuals on all levels of the organization.
