Job Purpose

This position is responsible for managing and coordinating station planning process to include daily, weekly, and long-range planning.

Essential Functions:

• Review/troubleshoot plant equipment problems, develop written work plans, procure parts and services, and schedule repairs to station equipment.

• Perform Instrument and Electrical Shop support, outage planning, electrical out of service planning.

• Perform NERC required compliance testing, documentation, and reporting.

• Provide technical support, testing and inspection expertise with electrical and instrument control equipment.to ensure safe, reliable, and efficient plant operation.

• Electrical test engineer with electrical power plant and electrical protection system experience.

• Experience with a generator, transformer, breaker and bus equipment and related protective equipment a must.

• Knowledgeable in process controls, instruments, control system configurations, and design within a coal plant environment.

• Knowledge of voltage regulation equipment.

• Optimize station equipment operation to meet key performance indicators.

• Conduct root cause analysis of equipment problems and provide recommendations to prevent future incidents. Assemble all equipment failure reports.

• Manage major equipment and unit outages including development of repair scopes, facilitating outage meetings, creating manpower loading and schedules, coordinating various work groups activities and budget review.

• Administer contracts of equipment repairs, including development of detailed scopes and specifications, creation of schedules, manage/supervise vendor/contract activities, manage project costs.

• Manage scheduled and forced unit outages, including coordination & prioritization of work activities between work groups, development of work schedules, determination of critical path activities and facilitation of progress meetings.

• Communicate routinely with station operations to adjust and coordinate maintenance repairs while meeting operational requirements.

QUALIFICATION GUIDELINES

Any combination equivalent to, but not limited to, the following:

Required:

• High school diploma or equivalent experience is required.

• A minimum of seven years of coal-fired power plant experience or equivalent heavy industry, maintaining rotating equipment, including supervisory role in a union shop, with background in maintenance with Boiler/turbine/generator overhauls is required.

• Experience working with vendors/suppliers ordering parts and experience with budget control and cost justification is desired.

Knowledge/Skills/Abilities:

• Thorough knowledge of power plant maintenance principles, procedures and safe work practices including staging material.

• Thorough knowledge of workflow processes, troubleshooting and planning techniques.

• General knowledge of operations processes and mechanical and chemical theories as they relate to power generation.

• General knowledge of supervision, accounting, and budgeting procedures.

• Proficient oral and written communication skills with the ability to provide performance based or developmental feedback.

• Ability to effectively supervise, train and direct subordinates in an understandable, clear and consistent manner.

• Ability to read and understand technical information, prints and engineering data, interpret charts, graphs, and gauge scales. Ability to troubleshoot and repair Instrument, control and electrical equipment and systems.

• Proficient in Microsoft Microsoft Office applications with particular expertise in Project. Proficiency in SAP is preferred.

Physical Requirements/Working Conditions:

• This is primarily an office environment with moderate to medium noise levels.

• Must be able to wear required personal protection equipment (PPE) such as hard hats, safety glasses, goggles, face shields, hearing protection, respirators, fall protection harnesses, and other PPE as required.

• Duties require extensive manual dexterity in usage of computer terminal and keyboard, while sitting for long periods of time preparing budgets, work scopes, outage schedules, and other reports as needed.

• Development of work scopes may require Planner inspection by climbing vertical ladders in excess of 20 feet and stairways in excess of 50 feet, using step stool, kneeling, bending, walking over uneven surfaces such as loose rock, open grating, up and down staircases.

• The Planner may also be required to operate mobile equipment such as zoom booms or scissor lifts to reach heights to inspect equipment, which includes pushing or pulling equipment into place, climbing into a basket, and riding in the basket while the equipment is operation

• The compartments where certain equipment may be located may exceed temperatures of 130F.

• This position may require some domestic travel.
