AltaGas - Lab Technician (6 month contract)
Position Summary
Are you passionate about laboratory work and eager to contribute to a dynamic team in a refinery setting? We are urgently seeking a dedicated Lab Technician to manage day-to-day lab duties, ensuring the highest standards of quality and safety. In this role, you’ll perform essential QC/QA checks, maintain meticulous documentation, and support both routine and complex analyses.

This is a six-month contract opportunity with the possibility of extension.
Tasks and Responsibilities
Perform QC/QA checks according to established methodologies.
Maintain proper documentation for QA/QC processes.
Enter notes on QC/QA charts when necessary (e.g., using a new lot of standards).
Complete and document lab activities regularly.
Follow protocols for lab supplies.
Order and restock consumables; ensure supplies are up to date.
Record maintenance, adjustments, and calibration activities.
Maintain both the operations satellite lab and the main lab by ensuring instruments are calibrated and chemical inventory is stocked.
Perform routine instrument maintenance.
Transport and receive samples safely and timely.
Conduct routine and non-routine chemical and physical analyses.
Make decisions based on what is best for plant operations/clients.
Build and maintain team relationships.
Support lab operations, safety, and environmental systems.
Ensure proper safety protocols are in place and practiced.
Identify and report issues impacting safety, environment, and production.
Contribute ideas for avoiding accidents and improving lab safety.
Support operations optimization.
Lead efforts to improve processes and procedures.
Support plant projects and operations optimization.
Follow all procedures and policies to maintain high standards of laboratory excellence.
Have thorough knowledge of testing procedures and instruments.
Qualifications, Skills, and Abilities
Minimum high school diploma/GED required.
0-2 years of data entry experience, previous lab experience, and strong organizational skills required.
Excellent communication skills to effectively collaborate with team members and report findings.
Proficient computer skills, including familiarity with laboratory software and data entry systems.
Comprehension of basic math skills to accurately perform and interpret various analyses.
Excellent organizational skills to manage multiple tasks and maintain detailed records.
Working knowledge of product specifications to ensure compliance with quality standards.
Demonstrated honesty and integrity in all aspects of work, ensuring trust and reliability.
