Department Overview

Pacific Gas & Electric's Corporate Contractor Safety Program has a dedicated Safety team comprised of safety and health professionals. We work with all lines of business within PG&E (Electric, gas, customer care, IT and generation) to proactively coach them on how to successfully implement the Contractor Safety Program within their organizations and to provide program compliance support through routine assessments. Our team is responsible for enterprise Contractor Safety Program governance and for providing guidance to the LOBs as they work to implement this critical safety program.

Position Summary

This position will provide support as the Senior Contractor Safety Program Lead within PG&E’s service territory as the point of contact and subject matter expert with regard to implementing the Contractor Safety Program and consultation on the associated program compliance requirements for their respective areas. You must be able and willing to at least 75% throughout the PG&E service territory.

Job Responsibilities

  • Identify and communicate applicable regulatory and company requirements

  • Support the pre-qualification of prime/subcontractors for impacted lines of business (LOBs)Develop and update utility-wide safety standards and programs

  • Partner with LOB leads on impacts and implementation (contractor safety standard and procedures)

  • Partner with Human Resources and line of business operations on training to align with applicable Contractor Safety Program requirements

  • Lead assessment efforts to validate adherence to applicable standards, programs and procedure

  • Partner with line of business operations to ensure an effective Contractor Safety oversight procedures are in place

  • Support the LOB safety specialists to provide guidance for contractor incident analysis and ensure the chain of command is notified

  • Ensure mutual collaboration with line of business and integrate in all levels of the organization in regards to safety (field employees, field safety)

  • Serve as a liaison between the technical and practical aspects of contractor safety and ensure implementation into the line of business

  • Frequently share safety information and Lessons Learned

  • Communicate contractor safety trends and recommends safety corrective actions

  • Perform Variance Request safety reviews and conduct assessments for approved contractors for their respective areas

  • Mentor LOB, Sourcing and Safety partners on the contractor safety processes and applicable procedures

  • Create safety action plans to strategize approach and provide guidance in development

  • Utilize safety trend analysis to identify and mitigate actions to correct gaps

  • Introduce and implement innovative solutions with impact to correct gaps

  • Communicate opportunities for improvement

  • Deliver program training and measures the effectiveness of training

  • Partner with learning academy to improve training quality

  • Provide guidance on coordinating annual training and training profiling as needed

  • Serve as a resource for the development, implementation, and sustainability of the various companywide initiatives (Safety culture, near hit, grassroots, ergonomics, motor vehicle, etc.)

Qualifications

Minimum:

  • High School or GED-General Educational Development-GED Diploma

  • Minimum 5 years of relevant professional Safety experience

Desired:

  • Bachelors Degree

  • 7 or more years of safety experience in a construction or utility environment

  • Certified as an Associate Safety Professional, Certified Safety Professional, and/or Construction Health and Safety Technician

  • Bilingual
