Idaho Power Company (IPC) — located near Oxbow, Oregon — is looking for a Generation Specialist Apprentice II or Journeyman with an electrical background to join our Hells Canyon Maintenance crew. What does a Generation Specialist Apprentice II or Journeyman do for us?
Performs the necessary maintenance functions essential for the safe and efficient operation of the area plants and facilities
Works independently and in a team environment with other generation specialists, in performing preventive and corrective maintenance on the power facilities, buildings, hatcheries, roads, parks, and other associated equipment as well as completing necessary upgrades
Responsible for welding, machine work, millwright, and electrical work at hydro-electric facilities and fish hatcheries

A COMPETITIVE CANDIDATE WILL HAVE
Knowledge of:
Foundational electrical theory and the function, operation, troubleshooting and repair of complex equipment through use of drawings and instructional manuals
Basic math including geometry, trigonometry, and algebra
Machine alignment
Measuring devices and tools
Rigging practices
Safe operation of hand and power tools used in the electrical trades
AC and DC circuit theory, wiring diagrams, and control schematics
Electrical test equipment (multi-meter, volt-ohm meter, current sources, breaker simulator, etc.) and testing methods, and troubleshooting techniques
Skills in:
Maintenance and/or operation of power plants
Inspection and maintenance of heavy equipment
Welding and fabrication
Pulling trailers and load securement
Operation of computer systems, software, and programs
Electrical work and practices
Ability to:
Maintain high productivity with minimal supervision
Perform heavy manual labor in adverse conditions
Communicate effectively
Establish positive working relationships in a team-based environment
Resolve conflict
Respond to emergencies in excess of normal working hours
Perform other duties/tasks as assigned
MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS
Apprentice II
Education:
- High school diploma or GED
Experience:
- 1 year of demonstrated education/work experience in electrical, generation, power plants, welding, fabrication, or mechanical equipment operation and maintenance
OR
- An equivalent combination of education, experience, or military training and 6 months of power plant experience
OR
- Currently enrolled in IPC’s Generation Apprenticeship Training Program
Preferred
Experience in the electrical industry
Journeyman Electrician license
Licenses & Certifications:
Valid driver's license with acceptable driving record based on driving requirements for the position
The ability to obtain a Class A Commercial Driver's License (CDL) within 6 months of hire
A valid Department of Transportation (DOT) Medical Card or ability to obtain prior to hire
Journeyman
Education:
- High school diploma or GED
Experience:
- Certificate of completion of a Generation Specialist training program that is recognized by the Bureau of Office of Apprenticeship (OA)
Preferred
Experience in the electrical industry
Journeyman Electrician license
Licenses & Certifications:
Valid driver's license with acceptable driving record based on driving requirements for the position
The ability to obtain a Class A Commercial Driver's License (CDL) within 6 months of hire
A valid DOT Medical Card or ability to obtain prior to hire
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS
This job will require occasional, physically strenuous work for long periods of time and in adverse conditions. Job requires the ability to bend, stoop, squat, crouch, crawl, climb into and out of vehicles, twist, kneel, balance, reach, and climb multiple flights of stairs. Occasionally lifting items weighing 75 lbs. shoulder height and above; occasionally lifting items weighing up to 100 lbs. waist high and knee high. Occasionally using exertional force up to 50 lbs. to push/pull cable, etc. Occasionally carrying items weighing up to 100 lbs. with two hands and occasionally carrying items weighing up to 75 lbs. with one hand. Requires the ability to operate a vehicle. Must be able to grasp and hold simple hand tools and testing equipment and use fine motor skills to use a computer keyboard, test equipment, and replace parts. Applicant must be able to perform the essential functions of the job without posing a direct threat of harm to self, others, or property. Job placement is contingent upon successful completion of a pre-employment physical evaluation, the DOT medical certificate exam. ADDITIONAL REQUIREMENTS
Must be at least 21 years of age. May be required to complete a respirator fit test after hire.
ADDITIONAL INFORMATION
May be required to travel with overnight stays. Job requires the employee to obtain and wear company provided and approved safety footwear and Fire-Resistant (FR) clothing. Requires working from heights with the ability to operate and perform work from elevated positions up to 300 feet, this may include work from ladders, elevated platforms, or open hatches/holes/cavities. Ability to work from confined spaces required. Requires the ability to perform work in inclement weather/extreme heat/cold conditions. Participate in emergency services first responder/recovery efforts. Requires the ability to respond to emergencies outside of and/or more than normal working hours. Requires working in a very remote location with limited access to services.
