The Opportunity
In this role, you will function as a mid-level technical engineer for Federal projects focused on resiliency, redundancy, and reliability.
As a designer, you will perform the following:
Provide controls design solutions for federal MILCON facilities such as headquarters, data centers, equipment maintenance facilities, hangars, housing, training centers, etc. as well as intelligence/command centers, generation stations, high-altitude electromagnetic pulse (HEMP) protected facilities, secure compartmented information facilities (SCIF), laboratories, aviation facilities and more.
Design Power Control & Monitoring Systems (PCMS) for controlling switchgear, generators, ATS, UPS, etc.
Design Building Management Systems (BMS) for controlling HVAC, lighting, security, etc.
Produce design drawings, control system specifications, and design analysis documents.
Develop sequence of operations to govern how different system components should interact to ensure smooth and efficient operation.
Develop input/output (I/O) list for the controls systems.
Develop cost estimates and materials lists.
Coordinate with BIM/CAD team for drawing production, utilizing Bluebeam for drawing markups.
Collaborate with large project teams and client stakeholders.
Travel to various sites, both internationally and domestically, to collect data and/or attend meetings.
As a project lead , you will perform the following:
Review/mentor lower-level engineering work or assignments for accuracy, clarity, and coordination.
Brief client stakeholders on technical aspects of controls systems throughout design development.
Manage assigned budgets, schedules, and quality requirements as well as establish work plan for projects.
The Team
The Black & Veatch Special Projects Corp. has its mission to provide a full range of services to our primary client base - U.S. Government agencies and departments. With the unique skill sets we have developed during the 100-plus years of service to our U.S. Government agencies client base, we are able to provide one-of-a-kind solutions to complex mission objectives that arise out of specific challenges faced by and unique to these agencies. Our primary areas of focus are: Architecture/Engineering (A/E) Services, Defense Program, Design/Build, Classified, and Environmental.
Key Responsibilities
Assist in developing, maintaining, and updating quality/engineering standards.
Provide support to business development or pursuit activities.
Independently investigate and learn about new controls system software, hardware, vendors, and related technologies as well as attend related conferences.
Preferred Qualifications
Professional Engineering (PE) licensure required. No preference on state.
Mission critical, redundant controls systems design experience
Knowledge of National Electric Code (NEC)
Familiarity with the applicable Unified Facilities Guide Specifications (UFGS) and Unified Facilities Criteria (UFC)
Active US security clearance, or ability to obtain one
Assigned to projects for U.S. Government Agency/Department clients. Candidate must be a U.S. Citizen.
Minimum Qualifications
Requires a bachelor's degree in engineering from either a recognized accredited program in their home country or the country in which the professional is practicing
Minimum of 5 years related work experience
All applicants must be able to complete pre-employment onboarding requirements (if selected) which may include any/all of the following: criminal/civil background check, drug screen, and motor vehicle records search, in compliance with any applicable laws and regulations.
Certifications
Most positions - depending on the nature of work performed as defined by the division - will typically require incumbents to have professional registration or licensure in their designated home office country, or be in active pursuit* of such registration
